I have waited a while to do this review because I was so hot about the experience and needed some cooling off time. Here we go.

Overall Grade: C-

Food
Grade: B-

Appetizer/Salad:
Grade: A
My wife and I split a shrimp appetizer and a salad with crabmeat. They were both excellent. I can't remember the name of the appetizer regrettably, but it was had some sort of goat cheese on it and was delicious. This was the highlight of our night.
Entree:
Grade: C
My wife got the Kobe NY Strip and I got the Lamp chops. Her Kobe was pedestrian at best. I've never had Kobe beef before, but I have had better NY Strips off my own grill. It wasn't particularly tender and didn't have some great flavor. At $65, I was disappointed. My lamb chops were good, but not great. Overall this was a letdown.

Atmosphere
Grade: C
We have been here once before and loved the atmosphere. This time, however, we were given a booth in the bar area even though I made reservations several days ahead of time and was promised a special table. I really don't need to hear about the bartenders sex life while I am eating dinner.

Service
Grade: D
Where to begin... First, as I noted in the atmosphere, we were given a bad booth in the bar after being told on the phone we would have a special table set aside for us. Then, the waiter took our wineglasses, and didn't offer us something else to drink until I asked him about a wine list following ordering appetizers. Then, when I asked for a recommendation on the cabs they sell by the glass, he pointed out the most expensive option ($14/glass) as his favorite. He followed that up but saying "...but that's probably too expensive for you, so why don't you try this one instead?"

Really? I mean come on. I know I look young, but seriously? That's how you treat a customer? We were dressed better than anyone else in there (bow tie and coat for me, dress for her), and you insinuate I can't afford an extra $2/glass of red wine? Moving on...

After we ordered our entrees, we didn't see him again until he brought us the check. I had to flag down a different server to order a second round of wine. We could see him the whole time in the main dining area servicing a larger table. He never once even stopped in to see how everything was. Ugh. I am so frustrated. I don't mind spending for nice ambiance, great service and nice food, but $245 for a bar booth, an insulting server and pedestrian grilled meat turns me off big time.

Save your money and go somewhere else. I will actively try to dissuade people from patronizing this establishment.

Extremely happy that I chose 2Johns last thursday night - while in town.

Thanks for review. Will be stickin to 2Johns and Mabry for SBC upscale dining.

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Was the waiter an older white guy with a white beard? He is just the worst. He always forgets the menu and starts over - I think he's on lots of cocaine.

I see why you had a bad experience: you forgot to get a Snow Bear.

Probably the most overrated restaurant (at least price wise) in Shreveport. Atmosphere and service are never above average. Bottom line, the food just isn't worth the price.

Maybe, but like anywhere else you just have to know how to make the most of it. I love going there. The appetizers are some of the best in town, the drinks are good, and the Cowgirl Ribeye is pretty damn good. I'd never get a $80 lobster or a $11/oz Kobe Beef Steak.

Most times I just go eat at the Cub though.

I hear ya. It's been a few years since Village Grille for me, but my uncle goes every couple months and has mixed reviews each time.

I had a cold marinated artichoke app there over Christmas break that was fricking great. Ordered two of them.

My wife and I ate there last weekend, and I tend to agree with most of your review.

Apps were great (crab claws and fried oysters)

The salad menu was just plain overwhelming- when you have an oral menu, having six salad options is a bit much- I ended up telling our waiter Harley (the old guy with the white beard) that I wanted bacon bits and the house dressing and I didn't want blue cheese, and after that I didn't care.

My steak was WAY overcooked (filet that I ordered medium-rare plus) and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't send it back. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were good. Asparagus were perfectly done. The wife's shrimp Alfredo was very good.

We skipped dessert (too full already) but since the steak was overcooked, Harley brought us a Snow Bear anyway. After we left, I decided that it's a cool place to go for apps, drinks and dessert, but we probably won't eat there again. I would much rather make the drive to 2Johns.

Waiter was a younger guy named Phillip. I agree with the prevailing sentiment... for upscale drinks, apps, and dessert I would consider it again, but for a really nice romantic dinner I won't be back.
