Who's been to the horse races at Keeneland? I'm thinking about going this year. LSU in town April 20-22. Gonna make a weekend out of it.

I've been with friends for LSU-UK 2007. Won about $300 betting mostly 10 cent superfectas that day, hit two races really well.
Keeneland is pristine, it's "Augusta for Thoroughbred Racing", old-south charm, ivy on the stone, great paddocks and courtyard, gift shop,etc..you'll love it!
Hard to cap at Keeneland, as most horses lack a history, lotsa maiden, claimer, and a few decent 2nd try/same meet "run-back" horses.
It was on the Friday before the OT loss, the UK and LSU fans were doing chants between races, Jimmy Ott was doing his show trackside, as were TVG's Todd Schrupp and Frankie Lyons..

I'd like to hit up the Maker's distillery. I'll have to convince my traveling partners to make a stop on the way back to Nashville.

Plenty of trim out there as well.

Went there the Friday before the 2007 UK game as well. It was a great time. The track is awesome. Easy to park and walk through the stables on the way to the grandstand. Jealous you get to make a weekend of it this year. Enjoy.

Never seen as many hot chicks at a sporting event.......had a great time at the Makers distillery as well. I was disappointed to see Kentucky come off of our football schedule this year.

Keeneland is a fun time, but don't forget that Lexington also has the Kentucky Horse Park.
There will be some sort of event, i.e. horse show, dressage, eventing, cross-country, whatever, every weekend at the Kentucky Horse Park. It also has a cool museum and parade of breeds when riders come out on about a dozen different breeds of horses.
If your thing is gambling and drinking then go to Keeneland. If your thing is horses then go to the Kentucky Horse Park.

Keenland is excellent. Pay the few extra bucks for the club house/grandstand area, rather than just going GA.
The food is good, the scenery is excellent, the location is top notch... and I have no idea what the above poster is talking about re: handicapping at Keenland.... it's a Top Notch breending and training facility and virtually every one of the KY Derby trainers has horses there running during the meet.
They are only open for the Spring meet and Fall meet --- 3 weeks each, that's it.
Top of the line venue.
As for tours --- just up the road is Labrot and Graham --- makers of Woodford Reserve.... top notch tour and facility. In Frankfort about 25 miles up the road is Buffalo Trace and of course you mentioned Maker's Mark ---- I have not done that one, but I do recommend the other two from personal experience.
Enjoy --- I too was dissappointed that UK dropped off the 2012 football schedule.... that was going to be my "road trip" game for this year.

I disagree, It's easy to handicap at Keeneland. All the horses are good horses, no bums and they run true to form, just have to know what you're doing. We used to go every year. Friend was a stewart at Churchill and Keeneland. Only other place as good as Kneeneland is Del Mar, where the surf meets the turf !

Fellas, it's a given that Keeneland has the 'best of the best' in breeding. I'm talking about handicapping material. With three graded stakes, and being 'horse mecca' for breeding and sales.
There are plenty of races with almost zero racing history to cap off of, except bloodlines, trainer, jockey, owner. The year I went, was the just Keeneland's 2nd as a Polytrack, thus had changed some of it's former 'norm form' run. Has some 'shippers' that depending upon the race, that can either be a total ringer or total flop mismatch depending upon the fields and distances. etc..
As I said, in recent years, Keeneland 'run-backs' have done well in 2nd try same meet races. I also really enjoyed being there live in 2007, as you could see some that got in the money, and could discard some green horses as well, by their body language in the pre-race courtyard parade.
