That 98 UNC team was a lot better then most people on here will remember but that 99 Duke team was better. IMO the 99 Duke team was the best team ever that didn't win the NCAA tourny.

JMO but that UNLV team wouldn't have beaten that Duke team. Duke had a starting 5 that could match them and were way deeper.

well i disagree. UNLV had 4 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder on that team. I think their athleticism and full court game is the difference

Who was the fourth first rounder besides Johnson, Augmon, and Anthony?

Wasn't Julius Peppers on that squad as a reserve? Or was it the final four year for UNC?

and Duke had 5 lottery picks and a second rounder on that team. Not to mention Mcdonalds all americans like Nate James and Chris Burgess coming off the bench.

ETA: Taymon Domzalski was also a Mcdonald's all american that played a little in the NBA off of that team.

we'll have to agree to disagree, both squads very talented. I just always had a thing for 90-91 UNLV.

And I am a big, albeit slightly closeted, Duke fan

I think the Fab 5 should be in the mix. Two straight final four trips. Maybe not the depth down the bench, but the starters were all first rounders weren't they?

Most people do because UNLV had won the title the year before and were undefeated till they ran into Duke in the final four that year. That UNLV team murdered most of their schedule that year, as did the 99 Duke squad, but I feel the 99 Duke squad played a much tougher over all schedule considering the ACC competition and the 2 teams they eventually lost to that year. (Cincinnati should have won the title the next year but Kenyon Martin went down right before the tourney)

I don't think all 5 got drafted first round. I know Howard, Webber, and Rose were. But those fab 5 teams have no business in this argument IMO. They lost too many games. Had they stuck together a little longer then they probably would have won a title, but they didn't

ETA: I just looked it up, the entire 2 seasons they were together they spent 3 weeks ranked number 1 in the A.P. Poll.

I think that 2002 Duke team was better...

Jason Williams
Carlos Boozer
Mike Dunleavy
Chris Duhon
Dahntay Jones

Daniel Ewing
Nick Horvath
Casey Sanders

Shane Battier was on that 02 team as well. Brand is what the 99 team had that the 02 team didn't though. However the 02 did win the National title so they are out of this.

from a UNC fan...that Duke team was awesome!! One of the few Duke squads I respected...they just flat out dominated! Wasn't a lot of flopping and 3-point jacking like most of their teams...but the 98' UNC team should have won the F4 that year as well, complete meltdown against an inferior Utah squad...both of these teams missed great oppurtunities to go down as greats, but Duke should feel worse..they were STACKED!!
