It’s generally been reported that Peyton Manning has had three procedures on his neck in the past two years -- which caused him to miss all of last season. But Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks is reporting that Manning actually had a fourth surgery sometime between May 23 and Sept. 9 of last year.

Making matters a little more opaque, Banks also reports that Manning potentially has developed bone spurs in his neck that the Colts believe will require another surgery (and possibly, gulp, another fusion surgery).

The unreported procedure occurred last summer in Chicago and it was a follow-up to Manning’s initial neck surgery. Since this occurred during the lockout, the club physicians only had very little contact with Manning.

Seriously if Peyton's neck is really this effed up (or even just a little msessed up), I just don't understand why other than pride/ego he would want to continue to play football.

It can't be $ bc:
1. He has already made a ton of $$
2. He could easily transition into TV and continue to make a ton without risking further injury

I hope they don't make a spur of the moment decision regarding the future of his career.

I wish he'd just call it a career and go out with his reputation the way it stands now. I don't want to remember him the way so many other greats go out.

Just get into coaching, and tear it up there. His HOF invitation is already signed and sealed.

SMH...

Bill Polian should never work in the NFL again for giving Peyton that contract without him passing a physical, no matter what Irsay may have said about paying the man.

This.

I have heard a lot of talk on sports radio about the competitiveness between the brothers. Peyton won't give up as long as Eli has the upper hand.

Nobody with any intelligence could say Eli is better than Peyton with a straight face. Peyton has been either the best or 2nd best player in the NFL for the past 10 yrs. Outside of this yr, Eli has barely been in the top 10 at his position. Even this yr, he was definitely in the 2nd tier of QBs (Stafford, Big Ben, Rivers, Eli).

Sure Eli has 2 rings, but after watching the Colts play this yr it was obvious that Peyton had been carrying that team for the past few yrs.

If Peyton comes back and risks severe injury that would impact him for the rest of his life just to top Eli in SBs then he is a complete ego maniac moron!

And what benefit would that provide?

How does this clean their hands of him? Second, no team will base whether or not to sign Peyton on "stories" leaked to the media.
