I'll be out that way next week and plan to bring an ice chest. Where should I go and what should I bring back?

Kartchner's Specialties in Krotz Springs.

If you like, you can call ahead and they'll pull everything you want and have it ready for you.

Kartchner's is good, but IMO bourques is the best meat market I've ever been to. I've literally tried 98% of the things in bourques and the only thing I found to be "meh" was the meatloaf.

The best thing at bourques are the stuffed mushrooms. It doesn't matter which stuffing, because they are all equally amazing.

Best Boudin in LA, IMHO.

From Butcher Counter in Back Left of Store:
-Boudin (Cold, not frozen)
-Fresh Alligator Sausage
-Fresh Garlic Sausage

From Meat Counter on Back Wall:
-Smoked Mixed Sausage
-Smoked Pure Pork Sausage
-Smoked Andouille
-Stuffed Chickens
Crawfish Ettouffee or Shrimp Ettoufee or Boudin
-Stuffed Mushrooms (Jalapeno Sausage n Bacon Wrap)
-Stuffed Bell Pepper (Boudin)
-Stuffed Pork Chops (Shrimp Ettouffee)
-TurDucken

From Bakery in Back Right:
-Loaves of Jalapeno Sausage Bread

I stop there fairly often.

I used to stop at Bourque's religiously, but now I favor some things at Kartchner's. Both are good, but I haven't gone to Bourque's the last few times since I stop at Kartchner's. I'm one of the few people who doesn't get all excited over the bread there. It's just okay to me.

That bread has become a staple at our hunting camps.

Thats what I see it good for..... Beer and bread at the camp.

At home? Not so much.

Yeah, it's okay and good to have out for game watching and such, but I never got the big hype over it. I made something similar at home, loaf style, using a recipe someone posted here when Neauxla was looking for a recipe and it's much better to me. Toasted slices were darn good.
