Saw an interview with former Braves pitcher John Rocker this morning on one of the local Atlanta news stations. He has a new book out called Scars & Strikes and I guess the interview was mainly to help him promote it.

They talked mainly about the SI article and the reaction to it, but he also admitted to using steroids (said they helped him recover between appearances) and also alleges that 8 to 10 other players in the clubhouse were using at that time. His justification was that if you didn't, it was like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

probably falls under the water is wet level of discovery

And I'd be surprised if only 50% of that clubhouse was using roids

If anyone is shocked by this, that person should not be allowed to vote or mate.

Been my argument about why pitchers were juicing more than hitters...

Initially the hitters probably did it first for homerun power
Then to keep up the pitchers started doing it
Finally, the backup catcher and infielders were jacking 10 homeruns a year just to keep a roster spot

I think the hitters started after the pitchers, to be honest. Steroids would seem to benefit pitchers more than hitters (recovery time) in the short run.

before people figured out how to balance roid and HGH use steroids tended to result in a lot of tendon and connective tissue problems so I tend to think guys like Canseco, Caminiti, and Incavelia (sp?) were using a while before the pitchers caught on

I picked him up at the airport and drove him around town for a couple of days in Nov 2010. He was in Baton Rouge for a charity golf tournament.

Then I saw him last September in NOLA at the UFC Fights and he looked like he was back on them. He was a decent guy...when he wasn't blacked out drunk!
