Brad Stevens & Shaka Smart

What would it take to hired one of these guys

Brad Stevens will be the next coach at Duke after Coach K retires. As for Shaka Smart, I'm not sure how they're doing this year but if you're just going by last year, they were a very average team in the reason leading up to the NCAA tournament. They finished something like 5th in the CAA. A final four appearances is impressive but six good games isn't enough evidence that Shaka Smart will be a great coach if he takes a job from a major school.

Brad Stevens recently signed a ten-year extension with Butler. He's completely content there and isn't leaving anytime soon. Shaka turned down jobs this past offseason, including the likes of NCState. So if this thread is meant to ask what LSU would have to do to get one of these guys, just forget about it.

The likes of NCSU? that's not a great program man... They had to settle for mark gottfried after firing UNO's old coach
Stevens is a no damn way but I'd ride my bike to Indiana go pick him up if we had a chance

No disrespect, but NC State is on the same level as LSU. Plus it's in a better conference and in the same neck of the woods as Smart is in now coaching in Virginia.
And sorry for the previous double post fellas.

Not saying that LSU can get him (because I don't think they could), but if a big time player came after him this offseason he would jump. That 10 year extension wouldn't mean shite to Kansas, NC, Duke, Syracuse, etc.
And although it is 10 years, I can't imagine the buyout being anything too dramatic. When he signed that extension, he had the hammer in the negotiations. All the leverage was on his end, no way he locked himself out of any potential elite jobs.

Well no shite. As somebody said earlier in the thread, there are a lot of people who believe that he'll be the next coach at Duke. Until a job like that comes open though, the guy loves it at Butler.

Is a much different statement than...

Also, NC State's football and basketball programs combined for under 20 mill profit last season. LSU's football team alone eclised 48 mill in that same time frame. So to use conference affiliation and geography and completely neglect monetary potential is short-sighted when comparing those two programs. The only thing holding LSU back is LSU's commitment to hoops.

Well NC State has always been a basketball school and offered Smart a big chunk of change to be their coach. Their committment isn't in question and he turned them down. And Stevens signed that extension (which was actually 12 years, I was mistaken earlier) that pays in the 1 million dollar range annually. Clearly he could make more money elsewhere, but is just fine staying at Butler or else he wouldn't have signed that. Now, if Duke or UNC come calling then sure he'd probably jump. But he isn't jumping to a football school with an average at best program like LSU or anything comparable.

Could not agree more.

Brad Stevens will leave whenever one of the blue bloods open up -- Duke, Indiana, UNC, Kansas, UCLA, etc. I can't see him leaving for anything other than the ideal position.
Waiting too long could bite him in the arse, though. His light could dim if he has a few bad seasons.

UCLA stands out. I know they made the tourney last year, but they are back to mediocre this year and Pauley Pavillion will open back up next season fresh off a 100 million dollar renovation. There is going to be pressure to break back into that upper echelon.

I think alot of the reason so many coaches turned down NCST was due to who their AD is

Not a chance Steven leaves Butler unless its for the NBA
