yes it was, but they missed this great Joe Namath moment.

I tried to bring it up on the movie/tv board and no one seemed interested. I DVR'd it but haven't seen it yet. I'm kind of looking fwd to it though.

I just wish he'd never made that guarantee and no one would ever talk about him.

Namath's position as a historical sports figure (legitimizing the AFL) is warranted in the pantheon. But his ranking as an all-time QB (and I'm speaking as a Bama fan), like everything else in/from New York, is way overrated.

I didn't realize how fast he was and what a great all round athlete he was before his knee went out.

Namath was maybe the 5th or 6th best quarterback in the AFL. That is a fact.
Len Dawson
George Blanda
Daryle Lamonica
John Hadl
all were better than him.

I remember when Randall Cunningham was QB of the Eagles the sports press declared that the running QB was the wave of the future.
Joe Namath was interviewed about it. He said... and I paraphrase:
"When you're in a championship game against a really good defense there are a handful of critical points that determine the game. When you are 3rd and 12. The defense knows you're not gonna run. You know you're not gonna run. You have to drop back, step up into the pocket and deliver the ball down the field. The QBs that can make that play consistently win Super bowls regardless of their ability to run."

I watched it early this morning when I couldn't sleep.
I had forgotten all about the Bachelor III incident. As a New Yorker in H.S. at the time that he beat the Colts, I was in the minority in cheering for the Colts. The Jets had beaten my team, the Oakland Raiders, in the AFL Championship game.
It is sad to see how alcohol affected his life. It appears, though, that he, unlike the Mick (with whom he partied a lot), was able to straighten out in time.
I enjoyed the show.

I did watch it. Thought it was pretty cool.
I wonder if Susie Kolber really handled it as well as she makes it sound or if she was pissed.
I DO NOT remember her making any statements about it afterward.
Can't believe nobody knew he was hammered before they put him on air.
Looks like he never learned with women though. How old is the woman he was with at the end?

I remember seeing the Kolber incident. It was embarrassing to watch. I take her at her word that she realized it was an embarrassing situation and accepted his apology and has forgotten about it. I thought that she was pretty classy about the whole thing.
You are correct, though. How could they have put him on the air when they had to know he was ripped.
He'll be OK with the women. He just needs to stay away from the booze.

One dumping you = the other.
Women who are 20 years younger than you are going to dump you eventually.

First time I heard about how hard he threw the ball. You could actually here it when it left his hand !

You have got to be kidding. Jets were a 19 point underdog. The Colts were great only losing a meaningless game to the Falcons. Namath put the AFL on the map

That super bowl changed the game. As a kid that was when I started watching football. A huge passing of the old guard. Every guarantee after that seems like a cheap imitation IMO.

We use to watch the AFL on NBC every week. Jets or Raiders played every week on TV.
