Are we suppose to like Russell Crowe's character in LA Confidential?

I'm 1 hour and 45 minutes into the movie and his character is really annoying. I feel like we are suppose to like him though. I know he is portrayed as the hot-head cop but we are suppose to like him for bringing "real" justice on criminals, especially women beaters. But i just don't like his character so far. He literally takes a swing at every single person in the movie. Instead of coming off as the hard nose cop that we respect and like he just comes across as the douche bag everyone knows IRL that is always trying to fight people.
**SPOILERS** as I was typing this he actually hit that blonde headed chick twice directly in the face for fricking another dude. uhhh she's a fricking whore dude what did you expect? the only part of his character I liked just went out of the window. He's a hypocritical woman beater now. i should probably finish the movie before I make judgments but there isn't much left in the movie and russell crow's character is a serious doucher. Does his character end up being likable in the end?
oh and for a movie that got like an 8.4 on imdb, it's not all that great.

He's redeems himself towards the end and yes, it's a great movie.

Its a great film.
He's a flawed, complex and conflicted man.
An almost perfect modern noir film. If you don't like noir, its just not for you.

ok fair enough. at least you replied with something semi-intelligent. I didn't mean for my criticism of russell crowe and LA confidential to make you so defensive

I've seen ALOT of movies man. as I'm sure a lot others on here have, including yourself. Listing 100 moves that I enjoyed more than LA confidential wouldn't be difficult. I could probably just do it with movies from the 90's and 2000's too.
But I haven't finished it and I never make a final judgment on a movie until I'm done. maybe it will be in my top 100 at the end.
edit: and no, I'm not going to sit here and come up with 100 movies I like more than LA confidential. I have to go to work soon

What do you expect? Haven't you seen his performance in "Russel Crowe fightin' round the world" ?

Maybe you'd enjoy it more if you gave it your full attention instead of posting here while watching?

Your assessment was dumb. You weren't even finished watching the film. I have very little patience for film criticism on a very good film without even, ya know, watching it.

I wasn't assessing the film dumbass. I made a thread about russell crow's character and even said in the OP that I haven't finished. You clearly got upset that I had something negative to say.

finished. and yes I definitely like his character (which was what this thread was about) more at the end.
again, a good movie I just didn't think it was great so I'll apologize in advance for that.

It was a good movie. I thought the ending with James Cromwell's character could have been a little better.

It's one of my favorite films. The conversation between Guy Pierce and Spacey's character about why they became cops is

You don't need to apologize. Taste in movies is subjective. It's all good.
