Monopoly yes. Underpaying fighters, meh...it's a fact that the UFC has only been making money for maybe 5 years.

They were 50 mill in the whole up until 2006.

So you got to think they have only been making decent money the past 2-3 years.

So espn refuses to cover mma and tUFC.....but they're quick to air this.....

While I agree that the lower ranked guys should get paid more than 3,000-5,000 a fight, a big to espn and their jealousy.

This has doubled and they did a comparision to payout for boxing years ago. While the top guys in boxing get more the lower guys get less than the UFC.

The UFC is still so fricking new compared to boxing though.

The "ESPN FU**ING SUCKS" comment by Dana White I'm sure didn't help with this episode.

The UFC is the only MMA organization in North America to survive long term. The business model is working for them.

Is MMA getting more or less popular? I don't know many people who are just now getting into it and it may have topped out.

Someone with more knowledge on this may be able to say i'm a moron and prove me wrong of course, just my individual observation

To me it's seemed to have peaked, most people I know that used to get the fights, don't anymore....unless the younger generation (14-16) are getting into it, it may be on the downward slope.

i personally have lost interest since pride closed down because the "UFC style" of wrestling dominated fights just isn't my favorite

UFC has grown by leaps and bounds every year. The past 6 monnths have really slowed. I don't see it anytime going on a downward slope...if ever. It's a hitting a peak for the moment.

The past year have sucked for injuries...BIG TIME.

With that said the UFC has still maintained losing guys like George St. Pierre, Brock Lesnar for fights.

Could you imagine Mayweather pulling out 30 days before a fight with an injury and still doing a PPV? NO FRICKING WAY.

well i meant personally

do they have a site that lists ratings for PPVs the past 2-3 years?

the UFC was making a habit of making 1-fight PPVs, which isn't a good strategy for the reasons you listed (injuries)

TUF is what transformed the UFC's popularity, and i'd imagine how it goes, the UFC goes. to me, it's stale, but i'm not your average joe (And i don't wear affliction, so i have no idea what the fake fans are doing)

having guys dominating the top of almost every weightclass hurts, too

Saw in a ESPN article that the UFC is valued at over $1 billion.

I agree with SFP my interest level has dropped at good bit, mainly due to-

TUF has almost turned me off. Crap fighters, it stands for everything that Dana says that the UFC is not, etc...

What it has dropped the past year I think the advertising that Fox is going to be huge. I think it's what is going to kick it to the next level.

The UFC will take a while to recover from losing Brock, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes though.

Bones Jones will help make this up. If they could market An Silva better, that would help.

And I just don't understand why GSP can make Hughes (twice), Penn and Serra look like asshats but can't finish Dan Hardy in five rounds.

I really think Cain V can now that he found out he's not a boxer. If he could get the belt and keep it for a while, that would be huge for the UFC.

Kind of like Chavez/De La Hoya did for boxing.

Hmm so maybe I'm wrong, but do people still see a ton of growth opportunities?

I mean the NFL's interest has even casual fans playing fantasy, making everyone interested in every single game.

I've never been a fan, but to me it seems this is a world series of poker type thing that will flame out within 5 years. Not sayings it's good or bad, just not my thing

yeah

what the UFC needs is more spectacles. they need to dip into the Pride arsenal

grand prix nights...freakshow fights...you name it
