well nba and nfl have massive revenue streams. i dont see ufc revenue being much more than a cable tv deal and ppv buys.

Doesn't matter im talking percentages.

And the UFC might not be pulling down revenues as big as those two sports leagues, but it is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

PPV $ annually generates around half a billion, live gates generated another $50 million, merchandising I don't know, and the TV deals (Fox, CBS-strikeforce, fuel tv, Fx, spike, and various others if they have more) are significant

I have no idea why ESPN won't cover the Mma world more, except that maybe because its a combat sport. They don't really do a whole lot of boxing outside of their own promotions and the champ fights. They do have an "inside the Mma" show on Espn, and they will run results of UFC events on the bottom line.

Perhaps Disney doesn't like to get involved in non traditional sports as much unless it's something "clean" like the x games

Im no expert these are just opinions.

And as far as the pay goes, the incentive to keep winning is significant.

GSP came in on a minimum contract (3k to fight, 3k to win) and won like 5 in a row and year and half later was making a quarter million a fight. Now it's reported he makes over 2 million a fight

it really does. if at 50/50 ufc wouldnt be making a profit it matters A LOT.

we would need to know what Zuffa's profits are before we can really talk about %s of revenue streams.

with lower profits, basic operating costs take up a larger % of the budget

Well yeah I'm
Not saying 50/50 but there is definitely plenty of room for more sharing

Which is why a union needs to be in place so fighters have power to bargain

exactly. so it is useless to say well the nfl is about a 50/50 split.
the 2 organizations are not set up the same and have vastly different cost structures

I'm going to be honest, I'm lost.

Who said you were 40 and in what context?

i think with your big fight experience you could make at least 10k per draw in the UFC.

I joxyed my name and yesterday you asked some dude who said I was old what he considered old....he said I was like 40 and you said you were safe because you were only 29. It was in a thread talking about the tailgate before the BCSNCG.

Agreed. Again I'm not saying 50/50 is the way to go. But if the UFC is grossing a billion a year (which is looks like they are or close) there has to be more money available to fighters.

Especially when you think of things that you might think are hidden operating costs but are actually revenue sources as well. For instance, when the UFC puts on a show at the MGM grand in Vegas, they are not spending money on venue at all, on staffing the venue, and are sharing advertising costs. The casinos actually pay the UFC for using their venue, and help pay for advertising so their name is involved.

Oh yeah I recall. I don't even think 40 is old. I train with a couple of guys over 40 and they are in shape and badass.

I got cut from the UFC some I'm just taking fights wherever. This year I want some bigger ones. I been fighting locally just trying to get some wins and easy pay days.

I get offers for bigger fights and I'm gong to take some this year.

I got offered 10k straight up to fight Tatsuya Kawajiri in Japan and 4k-4k to fight John allessio in vegas in second half of last year but turned them down.

Got offered a fight in Russia last week but I'm fighting next weekend already. So I'll pick up some good fights this year and maybe get Back in the UFC

Tony Jarreau (owner of Gladiators) did say that the UFC contracts are completely unfair

As breezy said, the fighters definitely need a union like all other sports

Tony actually sold GA. But there is no doubt the contracts are BS.

Example: my contract had language in there that said the UFC could extend or terminate at any time for any reason with no financial penalty. So all a 4 fight promotional contract says basically is, we will get you 1 fight and pay you X amount for that fight.

After my third fight of the initial 4 fight contract, they said "we want to void your current contract, give you a raise, and sign you to a new 4 fight contract going forward."

I said yes, gave up my last fight on the existing contract, got a pay bump and a brand new 4 fight contract. Lost a 3 round decision to Rafael dos anjos in my first fight of new contract and was subsequently cut voiding that contract.
