Did CLM really have options?

Scenario:
Dissension between players and or coaches and HC
HC must establish he is the HC and has the final say
That being said ..
HC has options:
1. Realize that coaching for the BCS championship is different than any other game-
2. Listen to input of coaches and players, thank them for input, seriously consider what he has heard and make decisions based on what it takes to win the game
3. Explain to players and coaches that the game plan is in place, he is the HC and that the time for discussion is over.
4. Approach the coaching of this game as any game- i.e that is it does not matter what game you are playing- they all should be coached the same.
Bonus Question- IS the team management method coaches use today in decision making vastly different than 30 years ago?

Why would any coaching plan not include playing the Sr. Back up QB that started 8 games, was undefeated, and had team ranked #1, in the 4th quarter when team is losing and starter is having his worst game ever?

Plenty of options. Yes. Put Mett in and air it out for one play. I dont care. Have JJ throw a behind screen to Mett of JL and throw the ball downfield.
or
Have JJ in shotgun, drop back and heave a pass as far as you can just to try and get them thinking.

Fetus, I'm not arguing with your overall point, but just saying, the BCSCG was not even close to JJ's worst game ever.

I am concerned our coach did not realize that coaching management methods in the BCS championship game are different than other games.
You should always coach to win, but sometimes you coach for the next game or in a bowl game for the next season-
But in the BCS CG you coach to win- leave every option on the field-

absolutely correct.
BCS game is WIN NOW, will correct it later.
...if you have not used all your weapons
and you lost,
you did not coach to win.

hey if he would have mirrored Saban's plan- quick flare passes to the side line
that would have produced results
which QB would have been best at those passes?

BOOM
yes the way it went down is truly puzzling, for those that say Miles doesnt owe me an explanation I think at some time he needs explain in a little more detail, after emotions have calmed down, what happened. But that may never come. I think the magnitude of this game and the number of people who are scratching their head saying WTF?, he knows he fricked up and I think he may have learned something

That's what got us in this predicament now. No back up for options.

When will someone challenge Miles on the very.reasoned and well thought out posts contained in this thread?

I have no explanation other than CLM allowed his personal pride to over rule the rules of coaching
His mentor Bo would not have agreed with his game coaching

We can beat this to death but anyone who still does not believe that CLM botched personnel options in this game is simply a moron....period!

I think we all agree- and I for one believe discussions within boundaries are healthy for CLM, players, coaches and the fans

Am I the only one that while watching the game, Alabama's offense looked much like our's did the first 8 games of the season. Short safe passing game to set up the run and then pound them in the second half?

Scenario:
Note to HC/CLM: Options bother you, confuse you? Start with three viable (if not absolutely talented) quarterbacks. Then begin limiting your options early in season by publicly stating you believe in a strong, dual threat 2 QB system. You might even want to toy with the appearance of this by mid-season. But then proceed by giving significant play time to only one of your three best QBs, gradually weaning the other two of any real-game experience and draining them of any excess confidence. You will find that if you get to a championship game at the end of season, you won't have too many pesky options to deal with and you can stick with that one QB you preferred, no matter how badly he might play. After all, football is only a game and subject to the whims of caprice anyway. Preparation doesn't really matter that much. Right?

All we know for a fact is this. JL's play may or may not have yielded a different outcome, but his entering the game definitely would have given the team a much needed spark. The crowd would have erupted and even if only for a short time that would have help to motivate the team!
