All of the BCS games got poor ratings. The Rose Bowl only pulled a 9.9 which is way down from normal

They need to start showing the BCS games on ABC not this ESPN nonsense.

It can't help that the last few years have been on ESPN Cable rather than Network ABC/Fox. I never understood that decision.

It shows, it is getting close to having a playoff system in which the fans want.

Time for a playoff system!

Like every other sport on the planet.

kind of shocking

not shocking. Bama/UT was on national tv and this one was on cable

i can't believe ESPN gets the ratings it does for these games

Or maybe it shows that people weren't enthusiastic about a game that was played already about 2 months ago.

Or that maybe people are busy streaming the game.

It's not a very good way to determine public desire for a playoff system.

Personally, I just thought college football was down this year, just like college basketball was down last year. The big name programs in basically all non-SEC conferences were not very good (or suspended - USC). That does not help with ratings.

Do any of you think the ratings are most probably from so many people having big parties and viewings to watch the BCSNCG and other BCS bowl games. I would guess this to be the issue, if every one stayed home and watched at their own place ratings would be much higher.

it can't be down for too long and not have that be the new normal...

also remember the low ratings were due IMO to small markets having an interest in the game. when the biggest ones are NOLA and Birmingham, that won't lead to big numbers

no. there are by far more super bowl parties, yet the super bowl gets the highest tv ratings every year. there are a ton of reasons this bcs championship game was the least viewed, primarily because it was a regional matchup. most of the country did not care. the fact that it was a rematch of a 9-6 game 2 months earlier didn't help as well.

I read somewhere that the Clemson-WVU Orange Bowl was the lowest-rated BCS bowl game of all-time. Seems ratings were down for all of them.

Oregon-auburn at least covered a large geographic region and was a first-time matchup. This year was a huge regional game, but there was absolutely no real national interest or storyline after the first game

The Fiesta had a huge jump in rating. That's about it

Another thing that comes to my mind is that there was no real underdog superhero/villain story. Think about the NBA finals and how everyone wanted to see the Heat lose. Fans want to see the SEC lose. Anyone on top, you want to see go down. And since the SEC was going to win no matter what, people probably weren't into that. Just another thought.
