Teams have to pick their spots against the New Orleans Saints: film study

quote:

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Pierre Thomas has been somewhat overlooked this season by the arrival of Darren Sproles and Mark Ingram but the quiet veteran showed just how valuable he is to the offense with 121 yards from scrimmage. Thomas bedeviled the Lions on his patented screen pass receptions, making several defenders miss with his slippery running style. Thomas had six catches for 55 yards and almost all of the yards came after the catch and contact. He added a team-high 66 yards on eight carries. Give Thomas a game ball.

quote:

PRESSURE REPORT: The Saints mixed things up early then got more aggressive once they built a double-digit lead in the second half. They failed to record a sack but hit Stafford four times and forced two interceptions because of hurried throws.

quote:

DIDYA NOTICE?: Rookie linebacker Martez Wilson saw his most extensive action of the season, earning his second start. The Saints employed him as an outside linebacker in a 3-3-5 scheme and sent him after the quarterback on several blitzes. The Saints have struggled to generate much of a pass rush this season and clearly see some potential in the athletic Wilson. Look for him to continue to see more playing time in the future.

I was noticing a lot of our blitzes were coming from the outside with Wilson. They were picking it up pretty good. I wanna see him blitz more up the middle where his speed and strength can be better utilized.

I don't think we ever run a qb sneak or leap early in the year with Kreutz under center.

Sproles in the backfield got me the thinking... What if we had a wildcat with Sproles getting the direct snap with PT and Ivory in front of him. Instead of the two backs blocking for Sproles, they kind of launch Sproles over the LOS with a hand to foot type launch or something. Send the turf smurf flying 4 yards in the air over the pile of dirtbags.

Why not just keep a midget on the active roster and have a backup lineman shot put him across the line?

Now that's what I'm talking about! Graham could probably chuck that dude 5 or 6 yards at a time!

Isn't that illegal? Lol. I know it's called leverage on defense when you use another lineman to jump up to block a field goal.
