LSUSports.net, along with several other news outlets, including Yahoo, recently ran a story about a small group of soldiers on a remote base in Afghanistan, soldiers from the 926th.

It featured a billboard that read LSU that inspired and brought tears to many Tigers fans.

When you are in a situation as they are, its the little things that make the biggest difference in the world. Its the little things that make you able to wake up in that God forsaken country. This was definitely one of those things.

LSU playing on Monday should be one of the happiest moments they experience over there. What, if any, actions would not allow that to happen.

Last week the NCO's and various other leaders of that particular unit were arrested, for that billboard. They were read their rights by MP's, and now face trial for a variety of charges. The 1SGT, 2 LTs, and 2 platoon sergeants were relieved of their duty.

Because of the press of the story, several 'groups' around the US were not happy. They did not feel soldiers of the US should be acting as such in a foreign country. So, they complained to the right people.

I do have a vested interest in this. This is my old unit, and in it, one of my best friends in the world. The first time we went to Afghanistan in 2002, I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences in my life. So this time with him being their with out me, this kind of thing really gets to me.

The people pushing the buttons and making the decisions 2000 miles away are the ones to blame for this. Most of them have no idea what it is like to be in their situation, and all to quick to make crucial decisions that effect a lot of lives.

I am not sure what will come of this, nor do I expect anything to. But someone needs to speak up, it is what they are doing over there, that we are able to enjoy what we have here.

Geaux Tigers, God Bless, Thank you all to those that have and continue to serve.

They were likely unhappy because the sign didn't say RTR. What a load of bullshite.

This is ridiculous! Someone with the connections get Gov Jindal, our senators, and Congressmen on this. Senator Landreaux should be the best at this since she is tight with the Obama admistration.

Penn, where can I get some additional information on this? I have a few phone calls and emails to send.

Its bullshite. I watched the 03 championship game in a tent in iraq and rose an LSU flag above the armory after the win. Yes we got shite for it but Just like those men it was an escape from the cruel reality around us. Screw the pencil pushers that don't walk the fence daily

Why not just cover the billboard up? Why the need to arrest soldiers for that? This isn't torturing prisoners or anything of that nature. Sure, you might be able to call it graffiti, but it's not something that I would think leads to an arrest.

These soldiers are in my thoughts & prayers, as are all of them. It really makes me sick that the government wants to take what little freedoms our soldiers have. My gosh, it isn't like they were posting a religous billboard. My son leaves for Afghanstan in February & I would like to think that if he wants to celebrate being an LSU fan,he can. God bless our soldiers!

Being an Iraq Vet, I can tell you that our men and women in a combat environment will and HAVE TO do anything that can lift their spirits in any way, shape, or form. The actions of these men do not constitute anything that could be deemed harmful. Their superiors who sit in an office and know not what these men face on a day to day basis should be ashamed of themselves for punishing them in any way.

My last tour occurred in 2007/2008 when LSU last won the Championship. My CO allowed me to take the night off, just so that I could watch the game. It lifted my spirits immensely being able to do exactly what my parents, friends, and all other Tiger faithful were doing back home.

The sense of connection to home that I had watching that game is the same connection that those men were trying to grasp at. They shouldn't be punished for it.

If anybody has ANY connections to the bureaucrats, please work you magic to right this wrong.

Not doubting you brother, but do you have a link to anything public about this happening? Kinda hard to call/email a politician and claim you read on a message board about the arrest. Some type of public article or report would lend credibility to the issue. Thanks in advance.

P.S. As a military officer myself, I think an arrest in this situation shows a lack of judgment and total lack of discretion on the part of whoever actually filed the charges.

Sorry man, no link

Wish I could stay the army makes things like this public but they usually don't

This is from the horses mouth of someone I would jump on a grenade for, so I tend to take it as gospel seeing as he was one that was arrested

I just got back from Afghanistan in February. I am also a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard. I am in a position where I get to hear a lot about everything that is going on with the Engineers that are deployed to Afghanistan. I have a really good friend of mine in the 926th that I have not been able to confirm the following statement with, but where I work I have very good reason to believe it is true. I know it seems ridiculous, but they are NOT IN TROUBLE for painting the billboard or anything to do with LSU. The problem IS that they are OUTSIDE the wire, WITHOUT WEAPONS, and from what I have heard.......WITHOUT PERMISSION!! That is the issue that everyone is pissed about. NOT THE LSU Sign.

I fully agree with "the little things" making life better for US Soldiers deployed to foreign lands. We had LSU stuff EVERYWHERE on our post. You could see our LSU Flag from all the way across post, because it was flown 6' lower than the highest flying American Flag. There is a right and wrong way to do things. Just like the people that took pics of themselves with the prisoners at Abu Ghraib.......WHY HAVE EVIDENCE?? Worst thing you could possibly do is take pics our YOURSELF doing the wrong thing and posting it on the internet. Like I said..... I am ALL FOR the showing support for your team (like the pilots from last year that had pics posted on LSUsports.net, but they were inside the wire), just be smart about it!!

This makes more sense. Now that you mentioned it, only the guy on the left has a visible M4. I guess they could've unassed the MRAP in the pic but if what you say is true that is clearly a breach of protocol, OPSEC and just plain stupid.

I agree, if something was done wrong, handle it

But to handle it this way I cannot agree with it
