Road trip to Auburn in 2012 where to stay?

Looking to book a room soon, if I can book in Auburn where else should I look? Montgomery or Columbus?

Montgomery is the easiest place to stay. There are a lot of cheap hotels only about 45 minutes from auburn

There are some relatively new hotels in Opelika right on the interstate.Columbus or Phenix City, Al. are only 45 minutes away also.

There are a lot of chain hotels on the east side of Montgomery.
