Les and Coach Mac

After watching the awards show, I watched the Ole War Skule clip show on LPB and there was an uncanny resemblance. There was a particular photo of Coach Mac in the tunnel with a hat on that struck me.
Is Coach Mac exacting his revenge on the bear through Les, and does anyone else see this resemblance?

Didn't see the show . . do you have a pic? Trying to visualize, I think I get what you mean . . .

Cholly Mac couldn't get close enough to even sniff Les's jock strap. I know everyone loves Cholly, I do too. But to put him in the same category as Les is laughable if you look at their accomplishments while at LSU.

Maybe that's why he would need to exact revenge thru a coach more capable.
Mac was not on a level playing field. The Bear would not be able to do A LOT of what he did to succeed with today's rules and oversight by the NCAA.

The only item where there is a resemblance is in their undying love for the QB that can run better, even if they can't pass worth a shite!!!

he was when he was younger. you have to remember that LSU created many of it's own limitations back then; no african americans (the alumni and ex-players caused this and i still get pissed off thinking about it), extremely low asst. coaches salaries and mediocre head coaching salary. in short, the mind set restricted success.

Miles is winning with Eddie Robinson's players

This years team is beyond revenge or anything like that. They are just head and shoulders above every one but Bama and they are better than what Bama puts on the field.

If this isn't the picture he's talking about - it will do until the real pic comes along. I won't say it's "uncanny", but I definitely see the resemblance.

Anybody remember that 19 game winning streak that we are threatening right now? Last game of '57 through the Halloween game of '59, inclusive -
WELL, let me tell you something about that - 6, 6, 3, 6, 0, 7, 7, 0, 18 (<-we scored 50), 6, 0, 0, 3, 0, 0, 3, 0, 0, 3
That is the points allowed during that run - I know more about defensive football than Dietzel does...so who is really responsible for all those games where Dietzel's vaunted offense got stuck in the mud?
6 of those games we scored 10 or less.
As Head Coach, Mac went on to lead 137 wins and 13 bowl appearances. I have Miles as the best coach in LSU history, Mac second, Dietzel and Saban tied for third, and Bernie Moore fourth.
I don't think "jock strap" metaphors are appropriate for a fine man who gave much, much more to LSU than he ever received back, at least during his lifetime.

quote:Lol. Sweet revenge, for Cholly Mac and for the whole LSU Nation! Coach Mac and Coach Miles are both a credit to LSU; we were lucky to have Mac and blessed to have Miles!

Amen to that.

If you talkin' Mac, you have to be older that 12...try acting/posting older that 12.
Mac was a fine man and a fine coach who had the misfortune to coach LSU at the same time Bama was making one of the greatest runs in college football history by going 143-19 with 11 SEC titles and 5 national titles.
No doubt Les has done more at LSU, but there is also no doubt that LSU had some very fine football teams in Mac's day.
I never will understand the need of some to crap on something LSU to build up something else LSU.

That's the picture.
They also talked about the players loving to play for him during the TV show when they showed that picture.
The picture and the sentiment reminded me of how Miles fields a team.

Thank you.
Cholly Mac loved LSU and he gave us his all. Bear Bryant and Bama did things that were never permissible at LSU (and they never should have been permissible at any university). Coach Mac was looked upon by many outside of LSU the same way they now look at Miles. So very often LSU wasn't given a chance, yet LSU won. Eventually, though, all of those outside forces wear you down and they wore down one of the greatest men to walk the sidelines of college football.
It's also as an LSU fan with some years under my belt that I remember 1969 (I was a little boy). That year still sticks with some of us because of a travesty of us not being one of the "darlings." It's why I want us to beat the ever living crap out of Alabama. Not just for us - but for Oklahoma State that had it's best team and won the Big 12 but the "darling" got it's rematch it wanted over the more deserving team.

Good running attack, and a smothering D. I remember quotes from defeated opponents referring to the Tiger D as, " flying around like a pack of animals." Goal line stands were common, not the exception.
