WTH is a "trap" game? There have been more articles this year on so called trap games. I looked at yahoo sports this morning and the feature story is LSU in a trap game. This is college football and any team ranked or not can beat any team on any given Saturday so what the hell constitutes a trap?

Obvious. If a team is looking past the game and is concerned more with a future game, thats a possible trap game.

Team A is ranked #1
Team B is ranked #15

At its strongest Team B can beat Team A at its weakest or moderately weak game.

If Team A is looking forward to Team C ranked #3 the next week or for any other reason doesn't game plan for the strongest Team B but instead does it for only vanilla Team B and is not prepared for the aggression or superior gameplan then it could lose - hence trap game.

a trap game is a game sandwiched between two "bigger, more meaningful" games with a lesser opponent. The "trap" opponent, though not as good, are capable of winning because of lack of focus of the superior team from coming off a huge win and then looking forward two weeks to another huge game. for example; last week LSU played #3 ARK, LSU won and basically clinched a spot in the national championship and now may overlook UGA.

idk how lsu could overlook an SEC championship but i guess writers are just looking for some kind of story, especially when the NC is 6 weeks away

"trap game" is an overused, tired, "ESPN-ish" expression that needs to go away, kinda like the terms butthurt, fail, and sorry for partying.

Pretty much every game this year other than Oregon and Bama has been called a "trap game."

A trap game is a game that generally falls just before or just after a big matchup. Generally the higher ranked team is overlooking the underdog because of a looming big matchup or they are coming off of a big victory/loss and don't perform the next week. Thus the game has a perceived higher percentage to be an upset than an ordinary matchup would be.

Find a replay of the LSU/ Tennessee SEC Championship Game from 2001. Tennessee ranked number 2, on way to national championship game, all they had to do was beat lowly LSU. What a trap that turned out to be!!!!

This isn't a trap game at all. The team has a 4 week break after this and they'll probably be hungry for some big plays. The majority of these players haven't played in a SECCG. I bet they are salivating over the thought of just hitting the shite out of somebody in one of the biggest games of their lives.

Before the season, a lot of people thought Tennessee would be the "trap", on the road between Auburn and UF. Of course, that was before we knew how good LSU was, and how bad UF and Auburn turned out to be, but preseason it seemed like a very likely chance for LSU to not be paying attention.
