Hopefully it doesn't happen but the possibility is out there. Do we fall below Oregon, Bama, and Arkansas? I would say we couldn't be lower than 2, but losing late in the season would definitely hurt us. Thoughts?

How about this scenario.

LSU beats Arkansas devaluing another Bama quality win.

Penn St. closes out the season with losses to Ohio St and Wisconsin....Tide gets leapfrogged.

It's good we have wins over the next two ranked teams but it seems media would penalize us more than Oregon and Bama loss. They're itching to take us out the mix and pit Bama versus Oregon. Figure they want an SEC for credibility of championship game but they also want the flash that Oregon presents. Would be a damn shame to not have the team that beat both those teams in that scenario.

depends on the margin of loss, really...compared to the ala loss (to #1 by the slimmest of margins) we would likely drop a place or two more than they did, if the score was close...

ETA: to those of you who think it is impossible that we lose, believe me, it is possible...

Shouldn't they stay at #1 since this LSU team is the greatest of all time?

Regardless, I feel we should be 2nd at worst. Too many quality wins to overlook and would have only loss to a top 5 team in Arkansas and wins over the next two contenders. I'm sorry, but Oklahoma should not even be in the discussion with such a blemish on their record, Texas tech has been awful of late. Seriously, Virginia Tech or Clemson should be ranked ahead of Oklahoma. Plus, Oklahoma State will win Bedlam to end that angle. LSU should be in championship even with an Arkansas loss, but it's about money and I don't think BCS wants to potentially give all the money to the SEC and confirm that even the other BCS conferences don't deserve to be in it.

Well, I have to admit, this question was bugging me last night.

So I got out my spreadsheet and tapped into the Fujitsu K computer.

Damn if it didn't say that LSU falls to 23rd.

There is it is for you.

LSU ranks at 23 if it loses to Arkansas in a close game.

LSU would fall to three at best but would never recover back to one or two. The polls would punish us for losing late. That's why we cannot lose. Media wants Oregon Bama and if they can get the op, everyone else is on the outside looking in.

If LSU lost they wouldnt/shouldnt fall from # 1. Back in 03 #1 Oklahoma lost 35 - 21 to #15 K-State and they didnt fall, they stayed # 1

If we stayed ahead of Arkansas in the BCS polls(which I think we would) and were within 5 spots of Bama(which we would be), then LSU would go to the SECCG. We would beat UGA and still go to the BCSCG IMO.
