At some point, Howard will have to step down. Is Bill Hamid the guy that will take over? If so, shouldn't we start letting bill get some appearances in these friendlies?

Guzan is still the #2 GK, but he can't get playing time at Villa. Hamid seems to be the recent MLS GK of the day, but I prefer the potential of Chicago's Sean Johnson.

Guzan hasn't had a call up since Klinsmann. If you go by recent call ups. Bill Hamid will be #2.

Cody Cropper is a good one but 18 years old. Johnson is 22 ? Guzan is young in terms of GKs, 27 years old..

We pretty deep thankfully. Only position I would say we are deep at.

At which point do you give these guys a chance in a friendly?

When they deserve it. None of our goalkeepers outside of Guzan and Howard play at a high level.

Since Howard is only 32, which is fairly young in terms of keepers, and he could possibly play in the 2018 WC.

I'd like to see some of these players move to bigger leagues before they get caps for the sake of experience. This is one position we can afford to be patient, as we have a great GK in the prime of his career right now.

This. Not a concern yet.

Up to last month we could have used

Kasey Keller, Brad Friedel, and Tim Howard.

Who will replace Boca is the bigger question right now. Our centerbacks...

Average age, 37.6666667.

But yeah, I agree with Henry, I definitely prefer SJohnson to Hamid at this point.

Well, both Keller and Freidel have been retired from MNT play for years, now.

I never understood why he retired from the international ranks so early.

He was still playing at a high club level in 2004.

I wasn't saying that they'd replace Howard. Just saying American GKs are pretty fricking legit and we are deeper than any country at GK. IMO.

Spain says otherwise with Victor Valdes as their 3rd keep behind Reina and Casillas.

Yeah, I love Howard and he's probably in the top 15 in the world but Spain arguably has 3 of those 15.

Also, France and Italy probably have 6 or 7 GKs each that would be considered among the world's top 50 or so.

I still agree that it's certainly a strong point of the USMNT
