The article ends with this:
"Lauro said he met Schreffler, the campus detective, twice during the investigation. Lauro said he was surprised to learn that the detective today would not talk about the investigation of 1998.
"'Wow,'" he said. 'That's really saying something.'"

This is the kind of digging that needs to be done.

All of those people have lawyered up. He is probably being advised not to talk to anyone about anything.
The whole thing does have the stench of a vast coverup though.

This is what SHOULD have been done all those years ago. Damn.

So everybody is covering for everybody else by subtly passin everyone else a sliver of the blame. Add a frosting of "That was a long time ago I don't remember,"Call and everyone walks. Well played on their part.
We need a real-life Dexter.

Emmys galore if they run with that storyline for next season.

frick Lauro. He was clearly a lazy fricking beaurocrat. Sounds like he did a couple of interviews and said Oh well. They should have tailed JS. frick this dude, he should feel bad.

The consistency of the stories in the grand jury report is unbelievable - the pattern of behavior by Sandusky should have put up all kinds of red flags.
He did basically the same thing everytime.

Even if that was all they got from that kid, how did alarm bells not go off?
This kid is running a children's charity, and the investigator brushes off "boundary issues"?
At the least they should have opened a file on him a continued to investigate. As "professionals", they should know that these types of perverts do not pull this shite on a one-time basis.

What questions did he ask the kid during his investigation?
Obviously in a case involving this kind of potential crime they should have brough in an expert to work with the kid to help them udnerstand that they are not in trouble and that its ok for them to tell the police if anything happened and that explain that its not their fault. I doubt any of this happened. Sounds like the cop asked the kid did you take a shower with the man? REally? well did he touch you? Oh, just a hug? ok, we'll it seems like maybe he shouldn't have done that but really I can't take this any further.
What were the circumstances leading to the shower? How did he talk you into getting into the shower?
Had this happened before?
did he tell you not to tell anyone?
how long were you in the shower?
After the hug what else did he do?

Investigative reporting is journalism at its best, especially in a scandal such as this.

Not a dig at you Ryno, but if the guy was talking to a juvenile about sexual abuse I am surprised that he [police investigator] was doing the interview at all. I was not in LE in 98, but now people that are trained to interview juveniles in incidents like this are used.

The detectives are probably safe in talking to the press unless they're being asked about grand-jury testimony or have been specifically ordered by a court not to say anything. Law enforcement officers are typically protected by sovereign immunity or the fact that there are no laws requiring them to investigate or respond to anything. They likely aren't talking because they don't want to, the prosecutor has asked them not to, or they're being asked about something relating to testimony before a grand jury.

If there policy is anything like most, they are not spokesmen for the agency. The whole one voice approach. Making public statements to the media is a duty of the top person or their designee.
