Maybe someone on here can help me out. I have been invited to hunt a private ranch in Texas and I can't figure out what license I need.

The property is in south west Texas about an hour from Junction. I am not a resident and they have both buck and doe tags so I know I don't have to buy any tags. I would think though I would need to buy some type of license.

Any ideas? Thanks

if it is whitetails you will have to get a non resident big game. If it is exotics, i think there is a pass of some sort for them.

White tail season ticket is $300 but you can get a shorter time lic for a lot less. Exotics like axis require a much cheaper lic.

I do not think they offer a cheaper version in Texas? Not for big game.

I did, couldn't find a definitive answer. That's why I posted on here. Thanks for your input.

To clarify it is for whitetails and I will only need a 5 day license.

Thanks for the replies

You can't buy weekend passes in Texas, you have to buy the season long one, which will set you back $300

You do not need a license to kill exotics in Texas

I've been hunting in Texas all my life and we've never been able to buy anything but the season license. That would be an awesome find if so , but I'd have to say it's not big game

Season license is required for big game...300 dollars. Bought it Monday. Add Upland Game for 7 dollars if you want to whack a turkey.

You still need a license to hunt exotics. The $48 no. 157 5 day license covers exotics. I don't see a a deer License for less than all season. You're screwed. Bought mine in Aug.

Ok then, well I never bought one

Maybe it's because there isn't a tag for them?? I know I've killed axis before and never had a tag for them.

I've hunted just southwest of junction. Very nice bucks. I shot an axis once using the $48 license and I don't remember tagging it.

I hunted Junction for years. Great deer hunting. Exotics running all over the place. Turkeys galore. Deer eating hogs. Great place to hunt.

They're right though, you have to get the $300 license to deer hunt.

I hunted a few years ago just north of del rio on a ranch near Juno. Nearest gas station was in Sonora. Nice deer, very desolate, and goats everywhere.

Thanks everyone that replied. I guess I'm out 300 bones. Not a huge deal, better than all the license I would have bought if I would have went back to Colorado this year.

Thanks again
