Anyone been down river lately? I'm going down to hunt Saturday and Sunday and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for hunting either Delta or Pass A Loutre. I've always hunted Baptiste Collette for the opener but wanted to try something new and hopefully get some big ducks. I'm not looking for secret spots just do's/dont's mostly. Any help is appreciated.

you're going to be hunting public land?

yes... Pass A Loutre is a state WMA and Delta is a federal NWR.

I have no idea about the area, but what type of boat is needed to get there. Will a 14' john with a 9hp long tail make it out there?

That would be a horrible idea to get in the river with that boat... It could on a slick calm day, but even then it's risky.
To the OP. There was a post on LA Sportsman that said that it's loaded down river near Delta Duck, so you may be making the right move.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the info. Soooo ahhh did I mention I have a duck dog and I'm a pretty good shot?

dude...venice always has ducks. If you go down to venice and dont come back with a limit of tails, annd a few other birds you're doing it wrong.

If you have a bigger boat, just tow your go devil, but then there's the hassle of launching two boats and all that nonsense.

No go devils/mud boats are allowed on the Delta. Just giving you the heads up.

You could cross the river to Baptiste Collette in that rig. I knew a guy who did it all the time but he was a local. If you ever to try it make sure you and your dog wear life jackets.

That would be the only place I would try with that size boat. But I would be scared to cross at night. It's not like you can outrun a crewboat or ship with that size motor. Just make sure no big boats are coming before you cross.
I used to run all over in Venice as a teenager with a 16ft tim's marine flatboat and 40hp yamaha but that is a little bigger and quicker than his boat.
