Garage Door Opener won't work in cold weather

Anyone ever had this problem? It will open using the switch on the wall no matter what the temp, but after I pull out of the garage and try to use my clicker in the car to close it, it won't budge. I have to get out, go in the garage, and close it with the switch on the wall and then come out through the front door.

Usually only happens when it's really cold (i.e. in the 30s), but this year it's been happening when it's in the lower 50s.

Anyone got any ideas of what might be causing this and how to fix it? I don't have an owner's manual (opener came with the house).

Just asked the same question to my buddy who owns a Garage door bizness. Turn up the torque on the motor. that is what he told me to do.

FYI sorry I didnt read the whole question. The cold will cause problem , but the part about wall and clicker is a puzzler.

yeah turn the force knob up just a tad....mine used to do this...google your model and find a manual online for it to figure out which knob to turn

batteries and the back of the motor there are some set screws. There is a + and - on ours. Small adjustmets at a time

So...turn the + button a little to the right??

I don't understand how the switch on the wall would initiate the appropriate amount of torque to close/open the door, but the signal from the clicker button wouldn't. A signal = a signal.

And batteries aren't the issue...there aren't any batteries. It's a button that's part of the car that's programmed for my garage door opener.

Change the batteries in your clicker moron. Problem solved.

ETA: The door itself obviously works fine. Batteries tend to die/not work as well in cold weather.

Can you tap on the opener itself and make it work again? or does it start working again as the day warms up? If so, it probably has a bad circuit board. One of the solder joints has a crack in it that contracts as the temps drop and breaks the connection at the joint.

To fix - remove circuit board, inspect solder joints for crack, re-solder when you find the crack.

Or - replace garage door opener. new circuit boards are generally more $ than a complete opener.

Craftsman and liftmaster brand openers were very bad to have this problem.

Probably gets a different signal from the opener than the one hardwired to it on your wall inside.

Next time it won't close, check on the safety sensors. I have heard that cold will cause their signal to weaken. Check and make sure the LED's are lit on the units.

Also, my garage door opener acts up when there is direct sunlight hitting the sensor. Maybe during the winter the sun aligns differently to your sensors?

Turn the heater up really high in your car to heat the remote just before you get to your neighborhood. Works everytime for me

Probably the battery. You might have to reprogram the clicker once you change batteries. There should be a square button on the back of the motor. Press that the light will blink and then press the button on the clicker....Why do you walk out the front door?... too lazy to make a dash under the garage door?
