Ronnie Vinson...what do we know about him?

It seems to me that Ronnie Vinson is likely to see extensive playing time in the game against Auburn. If he plays well, that would really make our defense seem a lot more solid.

I have read about the liklihood of moving Brandon Taylor to CB for the game, and I believe we will see plenty of that, also. But what about nickle and dime packages. We will need some depth there, and I don't believe that it will all come from the Tiger safety position.

Not to cause an outrage here, but I believe that the play of Tharold Simon, along with Morris Claiborne, has allowed Tyrann Mathieu the fereedom to blitz and ball-hawk. In other words, I think that Simon is a great player, and the Tigers may sorely miss him. They certainly will miss him for this game if a couple of our DBs get injured. The Tigers are running a little low at CB for this game.

Somebody please tell me that they believe that Ronnie Vinson is plenty good to get the job done at CB. Otherwise, please let me know, besides inexperience, what you think his limitations might be.

Thanks and Geaux Tigers!

I really expect Ron Brooks to get the most snaps. Auburn's WRs aren't really a fearsome bunch.

I seem to remember a thread from earlier in the year that said Micah Eugene was looking good in the Mathieu role.

Brooks is a given. I failed to state that clearly. The question is about the opposite corner, nickle and dime packages without our suspended players.

Vinson's only played safety to my knowledge. maybe they slid him over to CB in light of the suspensions though. he's got a CB build.

I wonder how Derrick Bryant factors into all this.

Bryant has played significant snaps, has lots of experience, but perhaps is a little less fast than our starting safetys and cornerbacks. we'll definitely see him play, but I believe it will be at safety.

I would imagine he gets some snaps. With those two out, its going to be all hands on deck in the secondary.

Well, fwiw he was a more highly recruited player out of HS than "the honey badger"

You never know though, he may step right in and our secondary might not miss a beat.

I think he has been moved to CB. That is where he lined up in garbage time against NWSU and Kentucky.

I don't think Eugene has played, and I hope that he is, indeed, looking good. I don't see burning his redshirt, unless absolutely necessary, this late in the season. I hope Micah is a future star for the Tigers.

Vinson is probably the smallest DB on the team. Even smaller than Mathieu. Very talented and capable just lacks the size of most of our DBs.

Mo Claiborne and Ron Brooks should start at CB, Taylor and Reid at safety as usual. The third CB will be Vinson from what I've heard.
Now when we go to nickel is what will get interseting, Brooks could slide in at nickel and Vinson could play cb, or they could keep Brooks at cb and play Bryant there. When we go dime, Brooks and Bryant are gonna have to play those spots with vinson or possibly Brandon Taylor sliding down to CB which would be interesting.
The great thing about LSU is when injuries and suspensions occur, we have OPTIONS. How many schools have this benefit, I mean we have 3-4 different solutions that IMO are all doable.
Brooks, Bryant, and Loston will all play significant time this week, and most likely Vinson.
Eugene is the future "honey badger" and has been doing well but he is RS, David Jenkins has turned heads as well but is also RS and I guess could play if the worse happens.

JBREAUX4LSU,

That is the best reply I've read. I agree with your opinion, i.e. we won't burn redshirts unless there is a real emergency. I also think you are correct wrt who will play and where. tanks for the info on Vinson, as well.
