I think a lot of ranters assume we will throw more with Mett. I've seen this on a few of the "Should RR2 leave/stay?" threads that pop up every couple hours. I don't expect that we throw anymore with Mett (unless he *have* to...meaning if we're not as dominant). This year, we've got a QB w 10 TD's and 1 Int, and he gets a whopping total of about 15 attempts/game. The QB may change, but CLM will still be giving it the RB with the least likelihood of fumbling.

so let's hear what you geniuses have...

I agree with you, but I have a feeling I might be an idiot.

Agreed, I think 2008 has changed Les' mind for a long time in regards to slingin it around. If the defense and running game are on par with this year, he'll see no reason to risk turnovers with a first year starter in Mett.

Well, he will pick up the 4-5 passes that JJ is getting. Plus, since I don't expect him to run 8-10 times a game he will probably get 4-5 more passes with the RB's getting the balance of rushes.

End result: 25+ passes a game and more rushes from Ware/Ford/Blue/etc.

Meh, we'll take what the D gives us. If they stack the box, we throw, and vice versa. If we get way behind, we extend the game,by passing. We really hadn't been in many passing stiuations, really, so why put the ball at risk. If we keep it on the ground, we limit turnovers, which has been a big part of our run, lately. Miles knows what he's doing!

Why are you people so obsessed with the small number of times we throw per game? If you like passing so much, go root for Texas Tech. And enjoy yourself at the Alamo Bowl...because that is about as far as a pass-happy offense will take you.

Are you too stupid to understand that Lee has so few picks BECAUSE of how he is being used? And we've thrown way more than that in several seasons since Les has been here, namely '06, '07, and '08. I think Mett will throw significantly more than Lee because he has the arm strength (i.e. velocity) to get away with a lot more than Lee can.

Lee is playing fantastic and the coaches are coaching fantastic. Why cry about something that may happen next year?

That's where the numbers need to be in order to give us the best chance to win. I don't care how we get to the redzone, where Lee is his best, as long as we come away with points. Mett is a much better passer than our current QB's. I'm sure it will be a little closer to a balanced O with him under center.

Not having jj will probably reduce the read option plays so we may substitute that with quick screens to our wideouts

That was what he was alluding to. Read the previous sentence.

he'll likely ease Mett into the role, but yeah I expect to see some fireworks from the offense as next yr rolls along. assuming everyone is back of course.

speaking of, I'm not one of those guys that likes to look ahead (esp. in the midst of a championship season), but our offensive talent next yr should be absolutely sick.

I'd say we are going to throw more. We're not going to become the Air Raid all of a sudden, but we should throw it more.

Probably not next year. He'll be a first year starter. Did we not learn from asking JL to throw the ball around his first year? I realize Mett played JC ball, but the defenses at this level are a little better.

We throw more with Mett, but not 35/game or anything like that. I see 20-25 attempts/game by midseason.

Lee is be3ing used carefully. Wont happen with Mett. It looks like he has the arm and release to make all the throws.

It isn't all about arm strength. It is about WHERE to make the throws. If they don't think he can throw the ball to the right place, don't look for many more passes than we are seeing this year.

Les said on the show last week that for next season we plan on slinging the ball for 200-300 yards per game with our tall QB's.

My apologies. It's still early in the week, and I have come out knighting with "swords" blazing.
