Any ideas? It's only about 35 people, and I was only spending around 1200. Not really a baller!

$37 a head. Is that after tax, tip, alcohol?
That is going to be a tough fit for a sit down dinner downtown. Will have to think about this one some.

Went to a party there once. Not too surprised. What about the Napoleon House?

Tax and tip... Cash bar
I haven't heard about Napoleon house? Similar pricing?

Bump for another go round... any replies could be helpful!

That's a rough price per head for a sit down. You looking for app/salad, entree and dessert, I assume?

Maybe somewhere like the Gumbo Shop?
That's a hard price-point to try to fit into downtown or in the French Quarter.

That would be nice, and I've got some room in my budget to spend a few hundred more. I was hoping to stay around there if I could.

I've never been... what is wrong with it?

Easy enough... god this sucks. I feel so robbed.

Yeah, but at the price, there may not be room for the best food in the city. I've read about people having them at Tujaque's and it being reasonable. The location and atmosphere might be nice. Food will not be anything to write home about.
May is a busy month, too, and you may be wrestling with prices based on that in the Quarter.
Maybe try Bon Ton or Mandina's. There are large menus there and it's possible that you could get somewhere in your range if you pick the least expensive foods. Might be better off serving buffet style, even.

Terrible food.
Ehhh, it's not great and I'm not vouching for it in general, but for the price, he's not going to find much better. Napoleon House is pretty awful, and I don't think I'd rank it above Gumbo Shop, food-wise. Room's not bad, though.

Check out the American Sector. They have the atrium that the website says can do 40-60. I'm not sure if it would be out of the price range too. Try calling them and telling them your story. They may help you out.
I had mine and Palace Cafe and my mother in law sad the lady there was very accommodating to finding ways to make the budget work, so it's possible.
ETA: I also just thought of Mike's on the Avenue. The food is different but ok.

Fair enough. It's been years since I went but it was probably the worst meal I've ever had in the city. How does a place called the Gumbo Shop have awful gumbo?

Where's Glassman? He knows everything that is NOLA...

Yeah, I feel for you. Finding a place at that price is going to be tough, but you'll find something. Might not be in the Quarter, though. You may have to compromise on that.

Try one of the country clubs around the area. I know most chefs or clubhouse managers can custome make a menu where it fits your budget.
But Chicken and fish look sto be in your future. Good luck buddy.

Call Oceana Grill. I've never been there, but someone told me you could select a reasonably priced, nothing too exciting menu. Have no idea about the food, but if you get something standard, surely it will be okay.
