At this point there is no way that A&M will go back to the Big 12 and it doesn't look like the SEC is interested in rushing to add a 14th team just yet. So for the 2012 season, I think A&M will probably play as a partial member in the SEC.

Their schedule will probably include 4 west teams (Arky, Bama, Auburn, and State) and 4 east teams (Vandy, Florida, and 2 others will have to break contracts) plus SMU and 3 other OOC (maybe Texas?). They won't belong to either division and they won't be eligible for the championship game, but they will go to an SEC contracted bowl game.

What do you guys think, will A&M go for this idea? Is there any other alternative at this point? It seems too late to add #14 for next season and I don't think there is any way that the west will ok having 7 teams when the east has 6.

that could work with a twist or two

pretty sure A&M's first SEC game will be vs LSU
esp since LSU doesn't have a "OOC" powerhouse on the schedule

Arky, OM, MSU prob the other 3 west, Vandy UT SC and prob UK

they will be "SEC" games but not really in the standings. something along that line but pretty sure the reason Toweson or whoever was brought on was to have a team to dump for the ags

This sounds like a pretty reasonable scenario and one I would be fine with. We will be replacing some major contributors, so it might be best to kind of ease into the conference. I also think they will try make LSU our first SEC game and capitalize off of some of the hype around it, which would be awesome. I'm just excited to see our first schedule, or what it might resemble.

I'm thinking they will put us in one division or the other and we would then be eligible for the championship.

I can't imagine them allowing us to be a conference member and not competing for the championship game.

I could see it as a possibility for one year when they only have 13 teams

I would think LSU would the first opponent too, but I was just going off the schools that haven't filled up their OOC games yet. Hopefully LSU drops Towson.

I agree.

There's no way we put them in the conference and don't allow them to compete for the conference championship.
Can you imagine the shitstorm if they run the table... no matter how unlikely it is, you must prepare for all contingencies.

I don't see any way we play in the SEC in 2012 and don't play LSU. The money to be had if it's Baton Rouge would completely justify paying off any small school OOC to replace them. I will be kind of disappointed if we don't, I'm hoping to make that my first road trip.

I personally hope we play yall at the end of SEC play, but y'all will likely keep the tU game there so I doubt that happens.

Personally I hope we do. It's something all of us grew up with and would be ridiculous if it ended. If it does, LSU would be my first and only choice to replace it. I love being the only college game on Thanksgiving Day.

Putting LSU in early/mid November would still make it a really fun game IMO. That, Arkansas staying early in the year at Jerryworld and the whorns on Thanksgiving would give us a schedule packed full of hate

I see aTm as an independent in 2012, but playing 8 SEC teams....maybe more...they have a whole schedule to work out, and I think most SEC schools would drop a cupcake to have aTm on the schedule.

On second thought, I would love our very first game every year to be LSU-aTm. Something to look forward to and will make us prepare like we did against oregon every year

This would be cool, even though it might be a sloppy game every year. Opening with a conference rivalry would definitely set it apart from the rest of the nation. The atmosphere would be especially crazy if it was the first game also, just need to make it at night regardless of venue.

I agree with everything you said. Night game on national TV because it would likely be the biggest game.

If you treated cross division games like OOC games for one year then I think they could be eligible for the title, that way some teams could play more conf games than others and have it not count against conference/division standings.

As long as all the west teams play each other and same for east then you would have the flexibility to schedule cross division as needed to fill schedules.

West would play 6 games that count towards going toward the title game, and the east would play five. 5 teams would play 8 conf games, while 8 teams would play 9 conf games (the 8 teams that added A&M to the schedule). A&M would play two teams from the east, those two teams plus the nonA&M west teams would be the 8 with 9 conf games, even though only your division games count towards standings.

Whether the scheduling could be pulled off I have no idea though.

I think LSU/A&M should be the 1st or 2nd game of the season every year if A&M comes to the SEC.

The MAC has 13 teams and they will go to a MAC like schedule imo. The way it works is not everyone in the 7 team div plays every team in that div. In a 8 game conf sched, 3 teams will play everyone plus two cross conf (i.e. 6-2) and the remaining four teams will only play 5 div teams and 3 cross conf (i.e. 5-3). That's 18 cross conf games. The East plays everyone in their div plus 3 cross (i.e. 5-3)

damn man, it's was to early to comprehend that. on second thought, i doubt if i could at any time. methinks your way would confuse so many people they wouldn't even know who the division winners were or how they won it.
