I am looking for a new duck call for my birthday and my girl friend said she would be me one . I hunt in rice fields so I would prefer an acrylic. What do y'all blow with? I was thinking of an RNT Daisy Cutter because I used one of my dad's last year and I was amazed by it.

I prefer, for the money, the primos original wench. I have the Primos Cocobola wench, Acrylic wench, and a couple of other versions of it. They are easy to blow, provide a decent ammount of rasp with little effort, and they sound good in fields, marshes, flooded timber, etc.

If you dont mind price, the Primos Acrylic Wench is about 120 bucks, and i have NEVER had it lock up on me in the field. You can pretty much dip it in the water in frigid conditions, and it will blow

Haydell Variable Tone Mallard.

I have a few Chiene Caille calls, but I always end up blowing Haydell.

Best call value wise IMO, is the original Haydel's double reed mallard call. (Clear with a green sticker)

Easy to blow, sounds good, and is cheap.

Also, Duck Commander's Duck Picker is a good poly carbonate call for the money...

It's not about the money you spend... It's about knowing how to blow it, and when to shut the frick up and let the ducks talk themselves into commiting.

I have bought a couple acrylic and cocbola calls for 45 to 100 bucks. They are all at the house. You don't need one to kill ducks...

Sureshot Yentzen ftmfw...inexpensive and sounds just as good if not better than high end calls if tuned right

I agree and disagree. Yes, cost of the call isnt as important as knowing when to and not to blow it. But some calls, especially haydel, lock up easier than others. The only Haydel i had decent luck with was the Redleg. It was alright, but you cant beat this call

In the fields, I blow a Haydel Smokin' Suzie. Great sound and easy as hell to blow.

In the woods I want something softer so I blow a Heavy Duty duck call thats hand made by Howard Harlan. Its made from cocobolo wood.

My favorites are the Haydel Red Leg and the Commander Cut Down.

But in reality, the real key is finding a call that matches the volume of wind you are comfortable blowing. They all sound good if tuned right and you match the wind necessary to blow them right. In the "old days" used to be easy. Just go in a store and blow on each call till you found one you liked. Today, I do not know of any store that will let you do that so it is sort of a crap shoot in getting a call that matches your wind.

I Like the Sureshot mallard call. Have had great luck with it for 15 years. It can be used for mallards or other ducks (gadwall, mottled ducks, etc.) It makes the best feed call of any i have tried.

Many many many moons ago when I learned to blow a call, I was taught to say "ticka" into the call.
