Heard the AU band play "Eye of the Tiger" during Miss State game. Also heard them play "Tiger Rag". Clemson plays that one too. Pretty sure LSU band was the original "eyeTune" band though.

I thought it was the other way around. Tiger Stadium should be called "DEAF VALLEY" then - IMHO.

Does the Pmac still have the "deaf dome" signs? for obvious reasons I haven't been in there in years to see it myself.

Was actually what Tiger stadium was called but eventually because of Louisiana pronunciation it became Death Valley

We stole everything from Clemson.

ETA: Conti had no part in eye of the tiger. I was focusing on the movie and not the song. FML

Ii used to be called by that name a long time ago.

It's actually Stallone's song. He had Survivor write and perform the song for him when he couldn't get the rights to use "Another one bites the dust". And it was almost called "Survival".
ETA: I don't care what Auburn does.

Clemson stole Death Valley from that desert out in California

Every college band started playing it in 1982. The LSU, Auburn, and Clemson bands are the only ones that didn't stop playing it in 1983.

I played in the LSU band when Eye of the Tiger was first used. It was first part of a half time show including other Rocky music. The Band used to play some of the popular half time music in the stands during breaks and Eye of the Tiger was one of them during that season. Eventually we needed a shorter version to keep playing it more often and it eventually became the 3rd down cheer.

I think that was the game honoring Bill Conti (LSU Alum) who wrote the score for the first "Rocky" film, and I think some of the subsequent ones as well. If I remember correctly Conti was invited to conduct The Golden Band from Tigerland for that part of the halftime show. Am I remembering it correctly, Hawkway? I'm getting older and things are a bit fuzzy! :) Thanks!

False. I thought this rumor was put to rest years ago...

tiger lady - I think you're right, I forgot about that part with Bill Conti....a very important part.

They honored Bill Conti by playing a Survivor song?

Just about everything I have read that says anything about tiger stadium and death valley describes it that way. Not saying that those are right but that was my understanding

I don't know what you read, but people have researched it and found no reference in print (or any media) to Tiger Stadium as "Deaf Valley" before the 70s, and even in the 70's Deaf Valley Shell was the only physical proof of that title, presumably as a play on words. Whereas numerous references to "Death Valley" can be found to the 40s and beyond.

Fewer Kilometers - We're getting some timelines crossed. Bill Conti was an alumni of LSU. The LSU Band has featured Bill Conti's works over the years. I'm not 100% certain but I think he guest conducted the band during one of the half time shows where they were playing music from "Rocky".
