It's official -- almost. An anticipated rubber-stamp vote by Southeastern Conference presidents to accept Texas A&M as a member turned into conditional approval late Tuesday night. In a statement released Wednesday morning, the league said it unanimously approve A&M's application but under the condition that the remaining Big 12 schools give their approval of the Aggies departure.

Just got the text from Espn. Posted on the SEC rant. Who will be the 14th member?

On the condition no BigXII school sues. Baylor and ISU will sue.
SEC statement on (sort of) accepting Texas A&M as a member: After receiving unanimous written assurance from the Big 12 on September 2 that the Southeastern Conference was free to accept Texas A&M to join as a new member, the presidents and chancellors of the SEC met last night with the intention of accepting the application of Texas A&M to be the newest member of the SEC. We were notified yesterday afternoon that at least one Big 12 institution had withdrawn its previous consent and was considering legal action. The SEC has stated that to consider an institution for membership, there must be no contractual hindrances to its departure. The SEC voted unanimously to accept Texas A&M University as a member upon receiving acceptable reconfirmation that the Big 12 and its members have reaffirmed the letter dated September 2, 2011.

Bringing in A&M is a good thing. The 14th team I hope is decent. The East pretty much sucks.

Statement from Dr. Bernie Machen, Chair, Southeastern Conference Presidents and Chancellors:

And here is that letter...
Dear Mike:
This is to confirm our discussion yesterday during which I informed you that the Big 12
Conference Board of Directors unanimously authorized me to convey to you and their colleagues in the Southeastern Conference that the Big 12 and its members will not take any legal action for any possible claims against the SEC or its members relating to the departure of Texas A&M University from the Big 12 and the admission of Texas A&M into the SEC; provided, however, that such act by the SEC to admit Texas A&M is publicly confirmed by 5:00 p.m. (CDT) on September 8, 2011.
Such admission of Texas A&M will result in the withdrawal of Texas A&M from the Big 12 Conference effective June 30, 2012. We both agreed it is in the best interests of each of our conferences and our member institutions of higher education to waive any and all legal actions by either conference and its members resulting from admission of Texas A&M into the SEC, as long as such admission is confirmed publicly by September 8, 2011.
If any of your presidents and chancellors have concerns about this commitment of the Big 12 Conference, they may contact me or Brady Deaton, Big 12 Board of Director chairman and chancellor of the University of Missouri, Columbia.
Sincerely,
Dan Beebe
Commissioner

Baylor is fricking pathetic. We all know it, but they will have it on full display now.
They will frick themselves in the long run b/c who is going to want someone in their conference that is basically the clingy ex-girlfriend that can't let go? They add nothing in terms of revenue, eyeballs, and they sue when they can't get their way. They are going to go down in flames.
They already weasled their way into the Big XII. They need to know their place...and it is with the likes of Houston and SMU.

I don't get it. I thought the SEC was happy the way we are. I guess that was just a smoke screen press statement as they waited for the legal issues to get settled, which now may not be the case. What does aTm bring to the SEC? They've not really been good at much of anything. I know they are highly ranked in football now but before last year what have they done? Also personally I hate this because it means Division realignment likely dropping our annual showdown with Florida. I really liked having them as a regular opponent.

Houston and SMU don't want them either.
They may be lucky to become conference mates with Lamar and SFA.

I disagree. That school sucks. Plus if this spells the doom of the Big 12 then super conferences are around the corner, and thats just downright retarded. How people in charge dont see that is beyond me.
not to mention the possibility of losing bama or auburn to the east if we add a team like Missouri for #14. Also there is the possibility we lose our annual game with Florida. All in all this is a truly shitty day for LSU fans.

Probably right after they screwed them out of a possible spot in the Big XII.
Baylor is going down in flames and they know it. They're extremely desperate.

ESPN texts and just typical Baylor behavior.

In other words no TAMU for the SEC. Baylor is gonna be a titty baby about it.

The SEC had written assurance that there would be no legal action dated Sept 2. Baylor withdrew from the agreement after that date and is still considering legal action.
ETA: The SEC does not want to be sued for interference for contractual relations.
