Not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Not as good as the gold or white pants, but not the worst pants ever as they're portrayed on here.

They were actually good looking...the 2 problems: 1) We lost the game 2) No stripe.
I love seeing Gabe Northern in this picture (on the right)...he is the one that stated after the game..."Had we won...the fans would have loved the purple pants").
Thanks for the picture! I looked a few weeks ago in a book store for the book with the pic.

I'd like to see an all purple uniform (with yellow helmets still). I think it would be kind of cool.

Why did so many of the guys in the picture need a towel that day. I think over half of them are wearing towels at their waists.

This was pre-bad arse receiver gloves. Back then all we had were Neumann's and if they got wet they sucked arse.

FIFY. Although I appreciate the nostalgia of those old school uniforms with the hip pads coming out of the side of the pants and the jerseys being cut above the waist, they have zero appeal compared to the current uniforms. I am not talking strictly about LSU, but rather the trend in general.
I cannot imagine looking back in 25 years and thinking that today's uniforms are ugly, but I guess I said the same thing in 1986 too.

As I recall, Melvin Hill played QB that night and stunk it up. They turned to Freshman Herb Tyler after that and Herb led a demolition of Ole Miss. Before, it was a hit & miss team.

I hated the purple pants, but I suspect that the look could be executed a little better with some striping on the side or at least some sort of trip. Those nasty things just looked like we lost our pants and stole some from a high school team.
