Ranking seventh on the list is their top draft choice from a year ago, pitcher Zach Lee ($3.4 million).

Since he was a topic of considerable interest on this board last year, I thought some of you would be interested in this development.

This actually sucks for Lee. Ramirez, Jones, Ishii, and Pierre have all been paid for years, so I don't really feel too bad for them, but Lee hasn't been cashing big checks for years like those have.

I hope he got a nice lump sum up front. From the sound of it the Dodgers won't be able to field much of a team after Thursday.

We got room for another QB prospect. Welcome back home, Mr. Lee.

Odd that his bonus wasn't paid up front.

They were allowed to spread his bonus out since he was a two sport player. It was basically the only way they could afford him.

Wonder if he's seriously considering coming here now? I know if I were in his shoes I'd consider it big time.

Honestly if I were Lee's parents and I had a sound financial grasp of the shite heap of financial trouble the Dodgers were in, I'd have said to go to college. And that's being realistic. It's like someone with a 415 credit score trying to convince me to give them a loan. Sure Zach how does 5.4 mil sound? We'll just pay that in the next four years if you can wait. I swear our books are straight once Frank McCourt pays 3/4 of the clubs profits and operational money to his fuggin ex wife.

Yeah, should have said the only way they could structure a big enough offer.

I'm on my phone and didn't read the link, does it actually say they aren't getting paid? I assume MLB would step in before that happens.

It amazes me how many football players who pass on LSU or get kicked off the team end up with things not working out. I'm mainly talking about the athletes who want to play at LSU or who have played.

Similar situation as the Texas Rangers, MLB will infuse cash into them to continue making the payroll starting this week. They'll just keep track of the money they're spending, and end up on McCourt's schedule of creditors on his Chapter 7 filing in Delaware.

In other words: Everyone should continue getting paid.

The Dodger situation was a known variable when Lee signed with them.

Didn't Matt Mauck play in the minors for a couple years before he came to LSU?

If they miss a payment to ANY player, under teh rules, that player is IMMEDIATELY a free agent and can sign with any team he chooses...

Its basically breaking the terms of a contract..which voids it under MLB's agreement.
