This seasons roster has many of us fans excited about the potential of our 2011 team. The roster is full of experienced vets & young, talented, hungry players ready to make an impact for our team.

With that said, there are a few veterans, whose play this season, will impact whether they'll be back in 2012. This list & reasons are my opinion but I'd like to hear the opinion of others. Also feel free to add any other players on this list if you feel I missed any.

1. Will Smith- Smith's numbers in '10 were nowhere near his numbers in '09. He resorted back to his '08 form & his pass rushing abilities were MIA last season. With younger DE's chopping at the bit for playing time, a poor 2011 season could make Smith expendable.
2. Jermod Bushrod- Bushrod is by far the weakest link on the Saints offensive line. He consistantly gets beaten by DE's. If Charles Brown can play up to his potential then Bushrod may soon find himself out of a job.
3.Jon Stinchcomb- Bushrod maybe the weak link on the O-line but Stinchcomb's play last season wasn't much better. If Stinchcomb continues to regress this season, then I can someone being brought in to push/replace him in 2012.
4. Devery Henderson- Devery has been a solid deep threat & has put up pretty good numbers for several seasons with the Saints. After a very good '09 season, Devery suffered with droppsies in 2010. There were games where he was a nonfactor in the passing game. If he doesn't catch & produce this season, then this maybe his last in Black & Gold.

Will smith was pretty disruptive in the backfield last season actually. Just didn't have the sacks to show for it.

Bushrod takes a lot of crap for a guy who was the starting right left tackle of a SuperBowl winning team.

I know he had a couple of bad games, but, he had some good ones as well.

I've seen worse. He's not elite talent, but he is a system guy who fills a void till someone better steps in and Brees trusts him.

dont know about this. he played well last season and was double teamed for the most part but he was very disruptive imo.

I prefer Bushrod over that terrible terrible Jamal Brown, that guy was just plain overrated to me

I kno he's a new addition, but Shaun Rogers could really bring this defense 2 another level. We really need 2 give Vilma more room 2 run this year. Keep those olinemen off him.

It will definitely be interesting to see his role this year and what kind of game he brings to the black and gold. God knows he will definitely eat up some space.

That ridiculous contract he signed won't let him be expendable. Cam Jordan will take the other DE spot. I don't think anyone is going challenge Will Smith for his.

While Smith did contribute to help stopping the run, the defense as a whole, missed his ability last season as a pass rusher. In passing situations, many times he failed to win one on one match ups even when he wasn't being chipped or doubled.

Fair or unfair, Smith set the expectations pretty high for himself with his '09 performance. There's DE's across the league that face chip blocks & double teams game after game & still manage to put up double digit sack totals at seasons end.

All I'm saying is that if you are going to be the man & get paid for being the man, then you better play & produce like the man. Last season, Smith's effort seemed there but it didn't show in his sack totals. The NFL is a numbers driven league. If Smith can't sack the QB in 2011, then one of our young hungry DE's may end up on the field in passing situations in 2012.

I agree. Rogers signing was huge. The attention he demands will free up guys like Smith,Vilma,ELLis,Jordan & Harper(If resigned) to make big plays. IMO, getting Rogers before the lockout was just as good as a move as was trading to get back in the 1st round to get Mark Ingram. Its moves like that, that win championships.

I agree. I'm really hoping Rogers brings what we all hope he can to the dline. But I have to say, Smith played well last year considering teams tried to take him out of the game as much as possible knowing he had a big year in 2009

You my friend are a moron!! Alex Brown didnt do shite last year on the other side. That and that alone is why Smith had an off year. Smith is not going anywhere. Hes getting switched to the other side and Jordan to his side. Our starters will be Jordan, Rogers, Ellis & Smith. And if that dont sound good to you then you are truly a sad individual.

I go with Will Smith still being solid, somewhat under appreciated, and having to deal with not much other big threats on the d line

bushrod- depending on the cba it is possible he won't be back THIS year. I think he will. He's no stud but he's not a bum either. He could have an excellent career if he could move over to the right side

stinch- he was terrible- BUT he played thru injury that many would not have (similar to will smith in 08) As long as he knee is okay he should rebound fine. He's a fair priced NFL RT starter

Devery- if he didn't have such a manageable contract he could be cut THIS year too. I think he's back but there is a slight chance of being cut. If they get any other credible deep threat he quickly becomes expendable.

Rogers- one year deal so it is a "show us what ya got" situation

ADD

Colston- last year of contract, we love him but ya do have to question 5 knee surgeries for longer investment at age 28

Casillas- he was gonna be the opening day WLB before the lisfranc injury, for an undrafted player it is important to seize opportunities or ya quickly can become just a backup or role player

Dunbar & Gallette- these guys have to show tangible progress and contribution or they may not make this season

Nicks- make or break the bank for him. Staying on the same track might mean we have the two most highest paid guards in the history of the league.

WTF are you getting all pissy for? Did you actually read anything I posted?! First of all, I created this discussion about players who underachieved last season & if they don't perform this season then their snaps could affected in 2012.

Of course Smith is going nowhere this season! He's going to get every opportunity to make up for last season. I'm anxious myself to see how he does with Shaun Rogers now in the middle. No where did I say Alex Brown had a great year & I didn't mention him because it was his 1st year with the team.

Brown has never been known a pass rushing specialist & the most he has ever had in a season is 8. Brown is no different, if he doesn't play solid or produce, he too could possibily find himself off the field in passing situations.

I was pointing out that other teams could use whatever kinda blocking sceam they wanted on us becuase they were not scared of Brown. Thus Smith getting doubled and such. This year will be different because if they ignore Jordan thats they arse. Thus getting Smith back to 09 form. Did I type it in french?

So there is no chance that he is or will be on the bubble. Could you understand that?
