Anyone ever fish there? Family going down in a few weeks and my son and his gf are talking about going out there a few nights. Any other places to fish in that area? Probably will go over to Destin one day and do the party boat trip as I have no desire at this time to fork out $800 for a fishing trip. Not cheap, just can't justify it at this time with the son starting college in August.
Thanks for any info!

If you want to fish in Santa Rosa Sound you can access the old bridge at both the Gulf Breeze end and the Pensacola Beach end. It is free. The P'cola Beach Fishing Pier charges $10, I think. But people catch all kind of stuff out there. You can also go to the Naval Live Oak Reservation and wade in the sound. It is on 98 past the city of Gulf Breeze. Or you can just fish off the beach.

When I use to live there, we use to finish it every other day. When schools of pinfish and blue fish pass by, you'll catch them all day long... literally filling multiple ice chest full. You'll see sheepheads swimming at the bottom of the pier but they'll never bite. Go towards the end and you'll see people catching king and spanish macks... but it gets crowded back there. There's also a lot of sharks in the back that are fun to catch too.

Thanks guys! My son was talking about this again at dinner tonight. He's pretty excited about being able to fish every afternoon and night. Doesn't get to do that too often up here.

Another place to fish is the bridge right before you get to Pensacola beach. You can park at the end of the bridge and walk on down. You won't get exotic fish, but we've caught some steroid looking specks there. Live shrimp and fish mid way down.
