Let's see, in the past 2 years with respect to major college football programs, Yahoo has done some real reporting and investigating on NCAA violations, as well as CNNSI, Sporting News, Columbus newspapers, and others.

So when will we hear from the Worldwide Leader in Sports?

When is ESPN going to do some real work? Don't they have the most "journalists" and "experts"?

Better yet, why isn't ESPN using their journalism to investigate Fifa's largest soccer scandal? I didn't know that was going on until turning BBC on today.

Answer: Anything negative press would hurt their ratings.

ESPN is just entertainment. They are extremely biased due to their contracts directly with many of the sports. Yahoo, SI, etc do not have those problems for the most part.

Exactly. They wouldn't report about how the Boston Bruins outdrew the Celtics this postseason.

Why are people upset by a private company trying to maximize it's bottom line?

Not to mention America may have gotten cheated out of hosting the biggest sporting event in the world.

espn barely acknowledges UFC exists too. Only time you see a clip on sportscenter is if a terrific knockout happens.

yet they show boxing every friday night. oh and lets not forget those meaningless Baltimore/KC baseball highlights over and over.

I have no problem with that. But I do think it's a joke that they have more journalists, college football shows, college "experts", more staff, more contacts, etc., yet they do virtually no investigative work - in other words, no real reporting. I happen to think they'd make more money if they did that. A lot of people consider ESPN a joke for that reason.

Note: I could be talking out of my arse, because I haven't turned on ESPN since football season ended and probably won't until football season begins again. It's just too painful to watch and a waste of time. So perhaps I missed their investigative reports of these major NCAA violations.

because they hold far more sway over the outcomes of college football than most people want to admit.

I just love how ESPN is already putting out names for potential replacements as head coach for tOSU. What high profile coach would want to coach a team with one hand behind his back? They never even mentioned that tOSU will probably face future sanctions against their football program & that reason alone may hinder them in bringing in a high profiled coach. We all know ESPN/ABC loves them some Big 10 football since they broadcast their games but to not mention such details is ridiculous.

Ohio State isn't going to hire anyone this year unless it's someone thats a no brainer.

There isn't going to be a "no brainer" coaching candidate this year & there won't be one until NCAA sanctions are handed down. No successful coach is going to jump head first into a program with the hand of the NCAA looming overhead. High profile coaches become successful by making wise choices & right now isn't a wise to plan try to coach the Buckeyes.

Ohio State will still be a top 5 job in the Country regardless of sanctions.

I'd much rather that Ohio State stick with Fickell for a year and see how it goes.

i think they do reporting, b/c they have lots of reporters, but they don't do much investigating, b/c they lack journalists

and the news media has turned into a big race for the first report, and everyone else typically backs away

yahoo has cornered that market in CFB. i don't even think ESPN wants to try to get into it. it's more profitable to expand into places like recruiting, so they expand there

Michigan fans & the media said the same thing about their program & we all witnessed the fiasco that their search turn out to be.

No winning first, high profile coach is going to throw their name out there with possible sanctions & probation looming. You also have to factor in that all the negative press is going to hurt in recruiting.

I see that you are trying to be an optimist but that optimism is blinding you from reality. The fallout from this scandal maybe more of an effect on tOSU program, short term wise, then you realize.

I think they have a couple of guys who are pretty dialed into some investigative sources. I agree that ESPN doesn't want to be in the forefront but they get legit info and I think sit on it to be prudent to go forward. Yahoo is like TMZ, they report sports info that is scandalous or glamorous and they don't take as big of a hit as ESPN in the public eye IMO
