Just came across the Basin Bridge

In all my years of traveling back and forth from Texas to Baton Rouge, I have never seen the Atchafalya River that high. At Butte Larose They had put some of the big sand box things at the levee there.
No pics...sorry, too much traffic to stop

I would love to see the difference at Morgan City from when I passed last Sunday to now. I heard it was already kissing the sea wall. Anyone in Morgan City care to chime in?

The bridge is in no danger of closing is it?

They believe the water will reach a height that is about 2 feet from the bottom of the bridge.

Do they know when it may reach that if the spillway opens Saturday? I am traveling Sunday.

On the MC side it is up to the wall. Berwick side hasn't quite come over the bank yet.

Thanks. How water tight are those locks on the sea wall?

Water tight for the most part. They put seals in place before they are shut and then sandbag the bottom. In the past I have seen a little seepage.

Will it get it as high as it did for Hurricane Audrey?

Just left from Downtown Morgan City. One of the gates is leaking a little bit. There was about 100 people on top of the flood wall looking at the river.

Don't worry, some kid will stick his finger in the hole and save Morgan City!

What year was Audrey in? My dad worked for the radio station in MC and used to stay for all hurricanes. During one hurricane he said that as the hurricane approached he went to the river to take a look and the river was almost empty due to the water being pulled out by the churn of the River. Crazy shite!

I'll be passing over the Basin twice later on. I'll see if I can get a pic.
