White House Worries About Farkers When They Think About Releasing Photos

quote:

Gates said his concerns about releasing the bin Laden photos were dramatized by Photoshopping of an official White House picture taken of Obama’s national security team while they were monitoring a live video feed of the operation in which Navy SEALs ultimately killed bin Laden.

I have gotten from friends all over the country copies of the picture that was this iconic picture taken in the Situation Room while we were watching the operation. And they have been photoshopped in every way you can imagine, including putting you know, coming after the royal wedding, one of these had all of us in one of these big, wide-brimmed hats from the wedding. Another had various football players seated at the table that had been photoshopped in,” Gates noted.

But wait, it gets better! It appears that all those crazy photoshops of the already iconic White House Situation Room photo that were floating around is actually what tipped off officials to the fact that if they released the death photos, internet shenanigans just might ensue.

Someone actually asked that we take Situation Room farks down because the photo was intended for official release only (there was a Help Board thread with a link about it). I think those that weren't voluntarily taken down were whacked.

I don't particularly care to see pictures of Osama's dead body, but I would like the opportunity to put the Situation Room as an open canvas.

So is it "safe" to post farks of the "situation room" photo yet? I posted one the other day and it got whacked. There are other threads on this site that have farked versions of the photo in them that have not been whacked. The disclaimer reportedly associated with the photo (see below) indicates that the photo was released for use by news organizations, cannot be modified, and cannot be used to imply endorsement of a product. When I log into TD I often learn things that I would not hear elsewhere, so TD could be construed to be a news organization. I don't think that we are suggesting that the White House, the President, or the first family are endorsing any products that might be shown in our farks. And as far as "may not be manipulated in any way", well.......two out of three ain't bad!!! What's the official stance? What's your opinion?

Disclaimer: "This official White House photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal use printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way and may not be used in commercial or political materials, advertisements, emails, products, promotions that in any way suggests approval or endorsement of the President, the First Family, or the White House."
