I have a suggestion if he can't stay healthy on the DL side...red shirt him...let him get healthy...and then move him to center as was considered when he arrived on campus....it's a shame to waste his abilities....JMHO

Consider how much he gets hurt he'll probably be out of the DT rotation a bit this year with Brockers, Ferguson, Freak and Logan.

If he wants a future in football, he'll move for his own good...he may just be on the small side to play DT...he could compete at center at 290...

He should have been moved to FB 2 years ago when it was obvious that he could not add the weight or take the beatings that an undersized DT will take. CJ Copeland was moved as a freshman from DT to FB. He is bigger than Downs. Copeland should have stayed at DT and Downs moved to FB.
