I don't want to hijack the WW3 thread about fresh vs. salt water fishing.

I love me some fly fishing for bass and bream. Challenging and rewarding at the same time. I've also caught some specs and reds on a fly rod. :csb:

Anyone else had some luck fly fishing?

I usually try and fish out west once a year. I've had some good times on The Big Wood river in ID.

I have a few times. I would love to do it more, but I don't have any gear right now, and I have entirely too many other hobbies that I spend entirely too much money on to really take up another expensive hobby like fly fishing.

ME! I burn that chinquapin (sp) arse every year. I fish Caney, Darbonne and my own stocked pond. You can catch em on a popping bug or a sinking fly when they won't hit anything else. 10 to 2 if ya know what I mean.

We had a lake house in N. Arkansas in the White river, Norfork lake, and Bull Shoals area. I caught a bunch of rainbows, browns, and cutthroats up there when I was younger.

I've caught some bream and bass in ponds here in La, but it loses it's appeal once you've floated a river and done some "real" fly fishing.

It's cool to know how to do it. I learned to tie sow bugs and wooly boogers. Once you catch a fish off of flies you tied yourself, you have a serious feel of accomplishment.

All that said, give me a 7 ft. carrot stik, revo, and a bag of senkos, and I'll show you a mossy back largemouth hawg... way better IMHO.

I went fly fishing for rainbows on the Salmon River in Idaho. It was amazing.

It's closer than you would think, and not expensive for a guided trip.

Look up White River trout outfitters (that's not a specific name, just generally what guides are known as) in Arkansas. It's only about an hour and a half from Little Rock.

If your ever in the Pinedale, WY area get a tube and hit Freemont Lake.....hard to beat for catching trout and the Wind River Range is awesome. Also for a guided "shore lunch" trout trip on the White or Norfork try Rose's Trout Dock.

I don't need a quide up there but for those who do it's worth it to learn the river. I'm talking about fly fishing......not chunking power bait off a spin cast.

That's a great looking spot. I love fly fishing, but don't get to do it enough since I live in louisiana. I've been in tennessee, north carolina, and georgia several times and always had a blast. Easily my favorite fishing.

Nothing like trying to catch a few bream or bass with flyrod and have a 10lb catfish surface and take your fly. Welcome to a 20 minute fight of your life.

Also, I've had several bass try to eat the bream I have hooked

How about when you hook a small bream and right at the same time come back with the rod to reset your lure and jerk that little MF straight out of the water onto the bank. I every time I do that.

I go to Idaho also....

North of Ketchum and Sun Valley in the Salmon Challis NF....

Usually camp, and fish, for two weeks. A ton of fun and absolutely beautiful scenery.

Here!

Love it and would prefer flyfishing to pretty much any other type. I build my own rods (have 18) and tie my own flies.

I've fished all over, from Mexico for Tarpon to NY for blue fish, LA for Redfish, Keys for Bonefish, Montana for trout and AR quiet a bit.

You forgot about raw crawfish tail meat.

They'll put you on fish though...

But you're right, I took a guided trip my first time, and was like... "I got this...".
