This is from someone's comment on Bleacher Report:

The only problem with this article is that it is completely true---
I love the Saints and was so excited when they drafted Reggie----Every game, every play, every year I believed this is gonna be when Reggie finally plays to his potential. It never happened. And during the SeaHawks game I realized it never would.

Lost it but won it for his former USC coach.

I will always remember the Arizona playoff game. He "brought the wood".

If the Saints can restructure his contract, and if they could somehow pay the scientists from the movie "Twins" to create a milkshake that would give us one decent running back out of the talents of Chris Ivory, Pierre Thomas, & Lynell Hamilton, Reggie would and could be used the way he needs to be: motioned out of the backfield, on 3rd downs, & lined up in the slot or out wide.

He's an excellent decoy. But, he also produces severe strain on a defense from a coverage standpoint, which masked our LT issues the last two years.

Chipping with a TE on most downs against +DE's in the league is going to get you murdered, unless you're straining a defenses ability to cover with a guy like Bush in the game. As a running back whose an excellent threat in motion or on a route directly out of the backfield, he also helped on blitz protections and pickups (anyone who doesn't agree with me, go back and look when we pistolwhipped the Dirty Birds in the Jawja Dome earlier this year. That dude was MONEY on pressure pickup, all game long, and they blitzed us 45+ times).

He allows you to cover up deficiencies because in the NFL, all he needs is one play every other game to become a difference maker.

Reggie has value. Not at his current contract rate, but he's got immense value for Payton. The Saints need to draft LT/DE/RB/LB in that order this year.

But, if we do anything with Reggie, RB moves up to the top of the list. Because Thomas & Ivory may not recover from their injuries. Lis Franc's & microfractures can easily be career enders.

I agree with the article. He'll never amount to anything but a change of pace or 3rd down back. A true waste.

I hope that statement about Reggie losing the Seahawks game is facetious. I totally forgot that Lynch ran over him to put us away.

He couldn't have run over Bush because Bush was injured and unable to play in the 4th Qtr. Remember some no name 7th stringer had to run the ball at the end of the game? I think that's what people are talking about in the Seattle game....when he was really needed to RUN the ball and be worth a 1st round pick.

Understood, but that game clearly lay on the defense. I get the point, but his lack of running effectively did not cause the outcome of the game. But if we are going with draft position, Tracy Porter and Roman Harper didn't exactly play like second rounders either. It's just confusing that people lay so much blame on Reggie for not being an "everydown back" when that's simply not what he is. He's a role player. Overpriced, maybe, but useful in certain venues.

I put the blame on him for running backward, fumbling the ball, and missing blocking assignments. To me, he will always be remembered as the guy who cost us the playoffs by fumbling a double-reverse against Tampa and the guy who taunted Brian Urlacher.

"He's probably the fastest guy who's ever played at a running back position," said Garrett, now the USC athletic director. "Gale Sayers was very fast. O.J. was very fast. This kid [LaDainian] Tomlinson in San Diego is very fast. I think Reggie's faster than all of them.

"I believe that he'll get even better in the pros. Fundamentally, he'll get better. He's very special. Every time he touches the ball, you know he can go all the way. I think he's a fine back, and just as important, he's a good individual."

Just kidding.

Nice post GFunk. Because we definitely need to chip a lot if we keep Bushrod.

Yeah, Roman Harper giving up 3 TDs had NOTHING to do with that loss.

And I'm a Harper fan, but he single-handedly lost us the game. And at the end the defense as a whole failed.

What gets me is when people get bent out of shape about him not being a everydown back and can't run between the tackles like it wasn't known when he was drafted. He played the same way at USC where he had a big bruising back to soften up defenses. USC used him the same way the Saints are the only difference is the upgrade in competition.

It took him that long?

Reggie is an okay player, but he'll never have that breakout year everyone waited for.

By the time his third year passed, I realized it wasn't meant to be. He is what he is and nothing more.

hes not lasting 12 yrs. he will fall off rapidly. he can't run anyone over, so when his speed goes he will be getting injured more often.
