will it cost approximately 4 years from now?

This would include Books, tuition & cost of living.

Tuition: LINK

Books: depends on the classes, availability to buy used, ect. typically around $500+

COL: where do you want to live? What is your social life like? Do you know how to cook?

A little more info would be helpful. Are you trying to get a figure for yourself, or a child or what?

Tuition + Fees will run you in the low 30,000 range.

COL is wildly flexible.

I would say mine was probably 70,000 for 4 years.

when i was at lsu, a 12 hour load would run me about $950 per semeseter.

..add in another $600 for dorm/meals.

the world has changed.

For 2006 to 2010, I'd say $60,000 for four years, out of pocket, for a TOPS qualifying student. Thats includes a nice apartment, car, food, clothes, and spending money.

Figure a 10% increase over the next four years max. I think TOPS is worth about $7000 per year.

Well she's only 13. Just tell her to be a badass student the next 4 years and get scholarships.

My kid lived in the dorm, walked/rode the bus, ate cafeteria food, and got a job for spending money. What is it with kids today, its college, not a four year a luxury vacation.

LSU was expensive. But they give good scholarships. Definitely came close to changing my mind on going to Bama. Family alums of LSU and Bama.

If your kid has his head on straight, makes good grades, and can get scholarships, what is so bad about parents giving their college kids a higher quality of life if they can afford to?

They basically give TOPS away, so that cuts into the cost significantly. I worked 2 jobs most of college, and one semester worked 3. Really depends on how much help you plan on giving her.

Yeah, but the 70k is not including tuition. I think he can bank on her getting TOPS, so tuition shouldn't be a problem.

She can probably make 45k or so just holding a mediocre student job for 4 years, plus any money she makes over the summers.

I took your post to mean you required an extra 40k in college just to satisfy your social life. TFM
