Beware of spitfire broadheads

Until this year I swore by shooting these broadheads. Last week I shoot at a deer and I estimated the distance wrong and shoot right under the chest, a clean miss. When I got my arrow out the mud I thought it was odd that blades didn't open. Well Friday I shoot a big doe at about 20 yards and drill her right behind shoulder. I go pick up my arrow and almost no blood and one piece of hair, I mean just a few drops of blood and arrow was buried in mud so it had to be a clean pass through. Well blades didn't open again and yes was a different broadhead. I trailed her for over a half mile accross three drained crawfish ponds. At times she bleed alot and it was easy trail to follow then nothing. I rode around after trail was lost on top of tractor while my uncle drove it just randomly searching ponds but no luck. I hate killing an animal and losing it. All the blades seemed too tight to me, I had bought two 3 packs and they all feel too tight except one of them.

Hate to hear that.
I quit using spitfires (I think, are they NAP-same company that makes thunderheads?)many years ago after I shot a doe and my kicked straight up.
What should have been a double lung turned into a single lung and she ran over 200 yds to a river crossing, never to be seen again.

Totally agree. I quit using mechanical broadheads all together after I lost a nice buck (150 class) in Kansas a couple years ago. It was partly my own own fault as the shot was a little forward and must have gotten into the shoulder blade, but a fixed blade wouldve punched right through. I still get a sick feeling when I think about this one.

SPitfires are horrible. At best, you get no entry wound. I have killed a couple of deer with them always got terrible blood trails. Even lost one that was a great shot with clean pass through.
I use Rage now and have never had any problems.

I use spitfire and I haven't had any issues. Yall do realize you can adjust how tight they are?
Then again I've only shot at one deer with them but it worked awesome for that one shot. Clean pass through, huge blood trail, easy to find the deer.

I didn't realize you could adjust them.

Thunderheads are the answer to this problem
