I believe LSU's class is the equal to Bama's, but what impresses me about Bama's recruiting is they were able to get players from coast to coast. Will LSU need to recruit more nationally in 2012 to have a top 10 class?

Whenever you have the instate talent that LA does (especially this year), with states like Texas, Florida, Alabama not very far from your school...there is no need to recruit coast to coast.

No...We need to continue to lock down LA, while grabbing a few from Texas, Florida, Bama. If Les has to venture out of state for a few here and there he can...and he has shown he can. But there isn't always the need to.

I'm not surprised with all the pub NS and the Gumps program rec'd after winning the BCS in '09. Crazy how he has grown to love the spotlight. I don't think it's just to promote Bama.

Id rather local players. Bobby Bowden said numerous times his biggest mistake was when he started recruiting nationally at FSU.

They actually are already doing that.

Our first 2012 recruit was Avery Johnson from Florida, probably the second best WR in the nation.

Of the uncommitted 2012 prospects, most of the ones that have already expressed HIGH interest in LSU are from out of state: Vadal Alexander (Ga.), DJ Humphries (NC), Curtis Riser (Tx), and Nacho Garcia (FL)

If anything, the most of few big fish in Louisiana haven't come out and spoken as glowingly about LSU as have the OOS kids I mentioned above. So we don't want to lose sight of our goal of locking down La. just to keep pace with Bama's OOS success this year.

this isn't a good thing. looks good on paper. however, if you followed f.s.u. under bobby b. he built their program on florida talent. when they got on top, they forgot about the florida talent and went after national guys. it hurt them.

national guys get homesick, sometimes they don't have that heart and desire the local kid does, and a lot of times they may not be a talented as the underrated local kid is. then you have upset your local kids/base.

i'm not saying bama's class is bad and their players wont pan out. what i'm saying is, if you make the national guys the top priority/foundation of your team, it usually catches up with you.

if you have a local base, you stick with it and supplement with outside talent.

I doubt we can do it. Looking at this past year's squad, serviceable players from out of state are rare at LSU:

Barksdale - Michigan
Toliver - Texas
Shepard - Texas
Ridley - Mississippi
Ware - Ohio
Baker - Florida
Sheppard - Georgia
Peterson - Florida
Jasper - Tennessee

Miles probably can't do it.

It's not something Alabama will do every year. 2012 will be just the opposite.

They have to go OOS because Auburn is cleaning their clock.
