My concealed carry options

Glock 23 .40
G23
Springfield xdm .40 compact
XDM 40
Magnum Research Baby Desert Eagle .40
Baby Eagle
Personal opinions are welcome especially with the desert eagle. I have never shot the eagle but have a few friends who have shot it and they raved about it. I have shot the glock and the XDM before. If you have anything else to recommend it will help.

All look badass but I would go with the Springfield. They make great guns and they are definitely the maker of my next handgun purchase

I'd go with the glock or the XD.... They are much more proven then the baby eagle.

Springfield - only choice for 40 cal, unless you want a man-sized weapon and then check out a Kimber 45.

Have you concealed carried before?

Yeah none of those would be comfortable for me inside the waist band. I just like to slip an LCP in my pocket.

Yeap take a life lesson from those of us that have been there done that.
Leaving in the South wearing shorts and t-shirts 9 months out of the year it can be a real pain in the butt to conceal carry any of those options.
I carried the SubCompact XD, carring for long periods was a pain because of the weight and it was bulky even for being a Subcompact.
Now if you are a larged frame person it may be different for you but an average frame person it will get old to carry any of those choices if you are going to carry on a regular basis. You need to look into more of the pocket pistol brands.
Now if you plan on just carring every now and then and for short runs here and there then any of those will work.

I have the Glock 27 for carry. Its much smaller than the 23.

They are all pretty big for concealed carry.
I'd go with the SA, but the Glock is a great weapon too.
I'd probably stay away from the Baby Eagle.

Have not concealed carried before, but I have been looking around and gathering info. But I plan on getting the supertuck in the waist band holster. It is supposedly one of the better options in concealed carrying. Although they do not offer a holster for the eagle, so that kinda does not help the eagles chances.

Posted on 1/17/11 at 3:32 pm to Chad504boy

The one I watched definately wasn't a dude. If it was I might start hanging out at the Oz.

Burgeman,
The first gun I bought for concealed carry was a Springfield XD in 40 S&W. Bought a nice iside the waist band holster (IWB) from Little Bear Holsters (LINK /). I find myself carrying that particular gun less and less. I find I don't like the extra thickness that goes w/ a double stack magazine like the XD and Glocks. About 70% of my concealed carry is split evenly between a 4" barreled 1911 in 45 ACP and a Kel-Tec PF9 in 9 mm. The 45 is carried w/ an IWB holster from Woolfe Gun Leather (LINK the Kel-Tec splits it's time between an IWB from Ryan Grizzle (LINK )
and a pocket holster from Bear Creek Holsters (LINK ). About 20% of the time I pocket carry a Kel-Tec in 380. This holster is also from Woolfe.
The "rear pocket" holster for my PF-9 from Bear Creek Holsters is a nicely done holster at a good price w/ quick turnaround. W/ this holster, you can remove the panel and be able to use the holster as a "front pocket" holster. The holsters from Woolfe are also very high quality w/ a quick turnaround. The Cross Breed Holsters are very well respected, but I prefer leather holsters. The Grizzle holster is very nice also, but the position of the clip at the thickest part of the holster adds to the thickness; clips positioned off the holster itself (e.g. SuperTuck and others) don't do this. Little Bear makes good holsters, but the turn around was slower (about 2 months) than the others.
If possible, try out both a double stack gun and single stack gun to see which you prefer to carry. The XD is a nice gun and I will keep mine, but I don't think I'll ever carry it much. And don't forget, snub nose revolvers carry real good in an IWB or pocket holster. Whatever gun/holster you end up w/, be sure you buy a quality belt designed for holster carry. Trying to carry a $500 gun in a $70 holster on a $20 holster from Wal-Mart will frustrate you!

Thanks for the input, I carry alot of stuff on my duty belt (G17, handcuffs, exandable baton, extra mags) and the extra weight really has not bothered me at all. I do not want to go to small with the pistol, I have held the smaller glocks and do not like the way my pinky is held under the magazine just to old it comfortably. And I do not see the use of having a mag extender, might as well have the bigger size.

I'm going to second what everyone else is saying. If you live in a warm climate (few jacket days), single stack is the only way to go IMO.
If .380 is too small for your tastes, check out one of the Kel-Tecs, Kahrs, etc. Ruger is coming out with the LC9 pretty soon, but I don't know about availability on that one.

Unless you have experience carrying I would start with a smaller framed "pocket" type pistol. Once you figure out your system a little more then maybe you can add something. Sig is also coming out with a small framed 9mm, the p290.

If you want to stick with glock, check out the g 26 and g 27.

The guns you've mentioned are all quite bulky. Check out the new p290, looks like a great CCW gun. Also check out the p238, it is very small and lightweight but easy to grip. I have very big hands and can easily shoot this gun.
