Anyone ever spray foam insulate the underside of an old house?

Got me an old house with basically 1.5" of wood between the bottoms of my baby-soft feet and the 30 degree air. To fight this i have to wear my all-in-one old western style full body red underwear. I'm getting tired of washing my single pair every week so i'm looking into insulating the floor from my crawlspace. Does anyone have any experience with doing this (or another insulating method)? The cold floor basically sucks any heat that's in the house right out (read $) and in the bathroom, the ceramic is even worse.

I think i was quoted $2,000 a few years ago but being the boot-wearin man that i am (and cheap), i know i can do it myself. Any tips/tricks/horror stories/projected cost (approx 1,200SF)???

Thanks... I'll hang up and listen...

Buy the foam sheets and do it yourself, much cheaper!

Its not easy by yourself, need about 3 people though

Sounds like you need a new house.

A crappy house that is 1,200 square feet.

is there no issue w/ condensation between the sheet and the floor? i thought about this method but was worried about this.

my house is the tits (less the energy inefficiency). I don't know if i could set it up any better (maybe newer, but not better). And 1,200 is only the part that's off the ground.

No way in hell a member of the OT owns a 1200 square foot home. My bathroom is 1200 sq foot alone.

Jk

How big is the crawlspace, from bottom of the house to the ground?

Got a similar problem, just built a raised home w/ #2 pine floors. I was quoted $2400 to foam underneath but that was a year ago. (Floors are prettin F-ing cold...
I am currently getting quotes on how much it will be for closed cell foam insulation, of course as a gazillionaire, i will have someone else do it.

12" +- enough to move around in...

(also i'm pretty sure it's the home to a skunk, a family of armadillos, and some feline friends....)

Posting to find this later. I need to do the same. Walls are insulated, but crawl space and attic are not. Ah, the joys of a 105 year-old house. . .

If you go with the spray foam you dont have much of a choice but to have someone else do it. Its not like the green fiber where you can do it yourself.

Or maybe get about 20 cans of the window foam and spray the underneath portion where the bathroom is located to see if it helps.

Or do the same thing with several pieces of the R foam cut to fit.

Or you can put up 3/8 plywood underneath then put in the green fiber insulation between the joists and plywood but only do a plywood with at a time.

The attic is simple, green fiber all the way. Ive done 7 attics of friends and all have noticed a world of difference. Usually put about 18" and it takes only a couple hrs.

Same situation at my place. But I just have my home office downstairs. Just came down and its 53 deg. in here. But the gas space heater will warm it to 70 pretty quick.

Another joy of old arse houses: knob and tube wiring. The upstairs bedrooms are still wired with the old wiring. Its in good shape, but you're not supposed to insulate around it.

Check the radio on Sat/Sun morning. I do not remember the station but there was a call in home improvement show that handled stuff just like this. If I had to guess the station it was probably WWL but it was a few years back. Anyways you want to make sure what you do solves the problem with out creating another.

Coco should be able to do it standing up, no ladder needed.
