I, like most, assume that the Crowton era is coming to an end in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, I do not think there is a worse year to do it. Both Florida and Texas appear to be in the market for new O.C.s. Both schools have very deep pockets and could likely outspend LSU. I'm not saying we can't compete with those guys. I'm just saying the prospect of a bidding war with those two universities is troubling.

That being said, I expect Gonzales to be promoted to O.C.

You don't maintain the worst offense in the SEC simply because another school is also looking for an OC. There are, literally, 90+ OC's statistically better than Gary Crowton. Plenty to go around.

FYI, I believe Crowton is make more than (or as much as) both Davis and Addazio.

Terrible point. Of those 90, how many worthwhile candidates will be on the market? That is, how many top 10 offensive cooridinators will be on the market?

There's always turnover. Should have done it last year. If we are ranked >85th offense next year, its a big improvement. Its not much of a hurdle for any new co-ordinator, because the ceiling has been so low for a couple of years. LSU has the biggest upside for anyone out there. and

WRONG!

LINK

From a yards/game stand point, the 60th rated offense averages roughly 50 yards a game more than us. Is that all we want? With our talent we deserve a top 20 offense.

we'll be ok. we've shown we'll spend, Gary's one of the highest paid OC's in the country. and if we can't get him to "resign" and go to another school, the deep pocketed guys who were saving up for Les' buyout will gladly divert a bit of that $$$$ over to Gary's fund.

Crowton will be here next here more than likely. Let's see at season end and not dismiss the guy just yet.

Are you serious?

Was Saban on the market when we hired him? Was Miles on the market? Just because someone has a job doesn't mean they don't want a better one.

I believe Crowton is the highest paid OC in the SEC...he was at one time, he may still be.

I agree..let's wait until the season is over to dismiss him...day after the bowl game will be fine with me.

for starters...i don't think that we would be looking at the same OC as Meyer because he is going to get someone to run his system not a big name to run the show on offense, so that leaves us and Texas. I feel there are plenty of OC around the country that would be an upgrade....we can't get much worse statistically.

Texas doesn't worry me as much since any OC taking that job would almost immediately be in job peril when Brown retires.

Do we really have to have a "top 10" OC. Hell, at this point I'd settle for a top 65 OC. That would be light years ahead of what we have now.

Why would you expect that? Why would you want that? We are a top tier program who can attract proven talent. Gonzales is an unproven commodity. He has never even BEEN an OC at this level yet! What makes you think he would be good? Have you even ever watched him coach? He was supposed to improve our WR play this year but I certainly haven't seen that. This is the kind of post that amazes me to no end.

Any given year could perceivably have it's negatives as far as pool of who is available, but from the teams position, now is a good time to bring in someone new along with Mettenberger.
