The wife and I will be in Covington for a weekend soon and I was wanting some suggestions on dining or a "can't miss" place for one night. We are looking for a "laid back" atmosphere, but most importantly GOOD food. I was thinking about the Abita Brew Pub (we love beer), but I figured that I might be able to get some other suggestions from here.
TIA

You can do MUCH better than the brew pub for food.
I will leave it to the people that live in that area to help with the suggestions.

Well, I thought that it might be that way, but I figured at least it would be interesting to tour the brewery. I appreciate any suggestions.

People always rave about Del Porto in downtown Covington.

Just so you know, the brew pub, is not part of the brewery. The brewery is a half a mile or so down the road.
Do the brewery tour, it is def. a good time. Free tour.

I have actually heard good things about this place. I was hoping for something a little more "casual" and more in line with creole/cajun style of food. I do appreciate the suggestion, and Del Porto will definitely be a go to if all else fails.

Exactly why I posted this on the board. I did not know this. Thank You.

I have never really had "True Indian Food". I do find it funny that they have a Mexican menu too.

Well, To me, Del Porto is not "laid back" It is very nice. I have been three times, it is hit or miss. I hate the place myself. If i wanted laid back atmosphere I'd go to RIPs on the lake, it is casual and has some good fish dishes. It is in Mandeville, which is about 10 miles from Covington, same Hwy. Rips has a nice patio to watch the sunset on. I like Annedales plantation in Covington too, it is really good, more dressy than Rips, More Like Del Porto. Other good places in Covington are Lola, and Gallaghers.

Dakotas is the old stand by in Covington for a laid back atmosphere and upscale food.

Gallaghers.

I really like the food at Gallagher's, but it's pretty light on atmosphere. I like it more as a lunch place.

Always dig Rips. If the weather's good, and the patio's open, it's tough to beat.

Never been for lunch, I live real close to Gallaghers, and it is always packed for dinner. I just figured it was too expensive for my blood for lunch. Rips at the right time is really good, lots of different gulf fish entrees. Love the chillin on the patio. Not many outdoor eateries around here.

DiCristina's in old Covington, accross from the couthouse on Columbia(?) Street. It meets both of your criteria. Its owned/run by people that worked at Rocky and Carlo's dowm on St. Bernard parish for many years. Same recipes.

If yall want to make a 5 minute further drive to Mandeville, Rip's on the lakefront is a wonderful atmosphere is the weather is nice. Also N'Tini's in Mandeville is delicious!
