IMO, the quickest way to get a playoff system going is to see a Boise State or TCU not only make it to the BCSCG but win the entire thing. Up to this point it's all been fun and games. Utah knocks off Bama, Boise beats OU and so on. However, seeing these not ready for prime time players in the biggest game of the season will force the hands of the larger conferences and the NCAA as well. The television ratings will stink to high heaven. And once those ratings fall, so will the cash cow.

I'l hang up now..............

A playoff system will kill the regular season... and the loss of revenue there will more than offset any monetary loss suffered by a shitty championship game.

a playoff wouldnt kill the regular season, make homefield advantage an incentive. Can you imagine 06 LSU with home field advantage

If we lose a game (which will eliminate us this year where we don't benefit from voter respect), I am rooting for Boise State v. TCU for all the marbles.

I won't watch it.

The problem is, it would take that match up happening a second time. The first time it happens people will watch to see Boise/tcu "get what's coming to them"

Regular season would not change one bit. Peole are going to be excited to see LSU play big SEC games no matter what.

Having a playoff in MLB doesn't lessen the hype of a good game between the Red Sox and Yanks. What makes
You think people would Stop going to games between LSU and Bama?

Every other sport uses a playoff. Hell, every other division and subdivision uses a playoff.

Right now, lose a game and its pretty much over. Not so much with a playoff.

A playoff won't kill the regular season as long as it is limited to conference champs. What kills the regular season is wild cards. I would think BCS 6 + two highest rated mid-majors or independents.

Also, as already stated a home field incentive would further reinforce the importance of the regular season.

And not one of them is half as interesting as the college football season.

And to whoever brought up the MLB as an example....

MLB doesn't have regular season hype. It is an absolute snore-fest.

Actually, television rights only contribute about 3% of the average FBS program's revenue. The value of television is primarily not in the revenue generated, but in the exposure.

Different animal. For instance, UMass-Amherst lost $2.1 million on just their football program when they won the championship in 1998.

To fans of such teams, you bet it is. Team playing best at the end of the year can still win it all despite having a loss or two.

BCS is worthless. No one really cares anymore outside of the NCG.

I'll grant you that the postseason is less exciting while the regular season is hundreds of times more so. I promise you I wouldn't watch a single OOC game without the BCS... because there would be absolutely no point.

I'm not one to advocate changing the system that at the end of the day, does what it is supposed to do... determine the two best teams at the season's end.

NFL has a playoff system.

I guess none of y'all watched the saints
Sunday since there's a playoff system that "killed the regular season"!

Yeah, these people are just parroting information someone else has told them.

Would make the season more exciting. A loss or two doesn't knock you out of the NCG picture.
