Our lease has so many hogs I'm having a hard time finding any deer. I got 130 pics on my game cam last night and all but 3 were hogs. (No, I don't know how to post pics lol).

Anyone else having this problem? This lease has never had hogs on it, but I think they're here this year because we have a big pond and it's so dry.

Oh well, I guess everyone needs pork chops and sausage

Haha yeah I hear you colorado, but I like 'em both. Took my son on the youth gun hunt Saturday and we saw a few hogs, but too far to shoot. No deer. I will be spending some time this weekend trying to cull some of that pork.

I love sausage

I'll gladly pay you to let me fix the hog problem. Got boxes of 7mm WSM waiting to tear apart some hogs once modern firearm season opens.

If I'm not mistaken, you can shoot hogs any time, whether deer season is open or not. Or have I been breaking the law? haha

If you truly are overrun with hogs you need to get several traps and trap them since they are moving at night from what it sounds like in your post.

Gun hunting them one at a time will do little to put a dent in the population.

Is there any way to put poison out without also killing the deer?

is your lease near your home?

there are several guys in your town that trap them, 'fatten' them up, and cook them during the winter.....

yes, you can shoot them whenever.

You can sour up corn....deer will not eat soured corn. And you mix what you want in with the corn.

But I believe there can be serious issues if you get caught.

Just remeber other animals will eat the dead hogs....will it effect those animals? If so how bad could the fall out be?

I don't really know if that would even be an issue just something to think about before trying to poison them

So hogs eat poison and die. Coyotes eat hog and die.

Awesome.

Get you an AR15 and a tripod stand. Put it by the pond with some feed and shoot the hell out of them. If there aren't many water sources around, they'll keep coming to it. Soon enough they'll go find another water source.

wish this worked where he lives....but he, fortunately, has been way behind the rest of the area if he is just now getting hog problems. we have leases around his home, and have for decades......hogs have been a huge issue for us atleast 8 years or so. they multiply like crazy and take over large areas like a virus!

hate to be this way...and sound this way....but kill'em all

Hey bossflossjr, you are exactly right - our lease has been very fortunate that we are only now experiencing problems with hogs. We are on US 84 between Winnfield and Natchitoches in quite hilly country. Not too much bottomland except for by the pond. In fact, I have never seen even one hog on this lease until this season. I have quite a few friends who trap them out in the Tannehill area, so I may be giving one of them a call.....

Large scale removal requires large scale thinking.

Set up a large round pin at least 4 ft high. A 4' by 100' to 150' roll of 4" hog/goat fencing will work well. place t posts every 4 ft or around the perimeter and make sure you secure the bottom of the fencing to the T psots well. It is important you have no corners as the hogs will actually stack up in the corners and jump over the fence. Have someone make you a drop style trap door with a cable trigger or a one way door 3 to 4 ft wide for the front. Try to find a natural funnel near your pond that guides them into the trap and try to place the trap so if follows the tree shrub/ line.

Put a spin feeder that throws only at night (stake it down with t posts) in the trap and wire the gate open for a week or more until you know the are coming to it good. Set the trap while leaving as little scent behind as possible (rubber boots, leather gloves) and make sure to check it the next morning. If it works well you should have 20-30 hogs.

Find some one who wants all the hogs first as some people will actually buy them from you live. If no one wants them, but a 22LR in each of their heads and cut out the back straps.

Repeat the process the next day. Then let the trap sit for two weeks wired open and repeat again two days in a row.

Shot at any remaning hogs you see while hunting and you should have a couple of hog free months... if you are lucky.

Very bad....Felony bad, a case several years ago in the mid west (i think), seems a turkey hunter was pissed at the coyotes, set out some poisned meat, worked well on the coyotes but then either some bald eagles ate the dead coyotes, or some of the poisioned meat and they died, hunter was charged and convicted of killing an endangered species (felony), interesting part of this story is he was pardoned by W, before he left office

I just read your post and saw this on Youtube. Looks to be about what you're describing. They have some badass hog hunting/trapping videos on there.
